I just saw this, release of WKO4 for Mac. Curiously, the website says that WKO4 for Windows is coming out shortly.
Anyway:
- Looks to retail for $199 but they are offering a $20 discount, as an introductory offer. No mention of when that offer ends.
- 14 day free trial.
I don't know anything about WKO4. I just saw this, posted it here, and am out the door to work on other coach-y coach-y stuff
. But I figured I'd start this thread where we can consolidate our observations and decide if this is worth upgrading to. That it's for a Mac is enough for me, but I need to see what this does vs the TP.com account I already have.

Announcing WKO4 for Mac!
It’s hard to believe that we launched Version 1.1 right here on this list nearly 11 years ago. It has been an exciting road and have many of you to thank for helping all of the power community in advancing knowledge about training with a power meter. We have been working hard over the past three years on WKO4 for Mac. We are excited to announce some incredible new advancements in training with power and data analysis. We made this for you and the members of the wattage list. We hope you enjoy it!
Give it a try !

Dunno. Do the trial and let us know
More info here, including a quick list of features, many of which look pretty cool.
Webinar tomorrow evening, registration is here.
Up and running. Looks great. Haven't had a chance to fully use it yet, but will report back tomorrow.
I was getting worried that WKO4 wouldn't see the light of day. But it appears that it was just going through extensive test and refinement. Way to go Peaks!
I've given up on the PC version a while ago. Paid version of TP has taken on some of the WKO features and since I'm pretty much day to day Mac, WKO just became a hassle.
They are holding a webinar tomorrow to discuss the product. I'm sure it will be available for re-watching later. I've signed up for it.
All the teaser blogs have made the product look pretty cool. However, I think TP and WKO in particular have fallen behind on product development and an upgrade is way over due.
Coggan said that they are madly working on the PC version and that should be out in a few months.
I've got WKO3.0 on a netbook I haven't touched in ~3-4yrs. I'm assuming I need to pull my license or something from that as proof for an upgrade? I didn't get an email.
They have a users guide which I have just downloaded. You also have the ability to import a bunch of pre made graphs done by experts. Not really sure about these yet, so I'm going to hold off until I get more familiar with the product.

Basically what Tom said already. I logged in before I purchased and it already new I was a WKO3 owner and offered me $149 for the upgrade plus another $20 off for being an early adopter.
I gotta download that.....
How does the weekend warrior triathlete use WKO?
I sat in on the webinar for about 30'. Hunter was going on a bit more than I liked, I wanted to hear Coggan's explanation of the new metrics, etc, but decided they'd be up somewhere (now, later) when I could digest them on my own time.
A couple of key points - they have had 700K files loaded in the first two days and are finding bugs. Check for updates everyday - they have already released a couple.
The learning curve is about 10 hours of use according to TrainingPeaks
You can load the program onto two computers and both will sync with your TrainingPeaks account
The program individualizes the analysis by running statistics on your data. So for example your training zones are set for you and they may be different than mine.
The program looks fairly easy to use with the given tools if you have used WKO 3.0 but there is a whole set up underlying tools that will let you model and analyze almost anything you want. You can then share your model ("chart") with the rest of the world who simply drag and drop the chart into their program. This part is going to be incredibly powerful IMO.
There are lots of YouTube videos on the TrainingPeaks channel. They are short and easy to follow. Watch them.
Get on their email list. I've gotten a bunch of information in the last day or so with links to more videos.
The PC version is due out in 12 weeks.
Version 4.1 is next up and will have a bunch more updates and more powerful search tools. The upgrade is free.
The program now models FT for you so you know where you stand. You still input your own values, but now have a reasonableness test against your own testing. Using your data it can model your power curve from 1 second to many, many hours with incredible accuracy.
I love the time range stuff. Create some analysis and then click on buttons for date ranges to see how things change. Select multiple date ranges and it creates over lying data and you can see changes. So for example you can run a power distribution graph, select multiple years and see improvement (or decline!) over time instantly.
I'm impressed so far but have lots to learn.
Tom,
Thanks for the quick synopsis. I was watching the replay of yesterdays stage in another window and Hunter lost that battle
Do you have any quick notes for us on the predictive side of this? Something like:
...or just point me to where I can do my own reading. Will do the trial today and bang on it this weekend after my scheduled rides.
@Rich. They are going to do weekly webinars. Next week the topic is, I believe, a deep dive on how a typical athlete should use the product to start.
My plans are to use this week to poke around and find features that are similar to WKO 3.0 and set up graphs I used to use on a regular basis. I've gone through most of the videos and they are really just the manual on YouTube. I've skimmed the manual but need to go through it this weekend. Next week I'll listen in on the webinar to get a better handle on the product.
I've tweaked a couple of the charts and I can see how it works but I can't to anything on my own at this time. They are going to release a document to go over basic coding concepts.
I think all the really cool stuff is going to happen over here: https://home.trainingpeaks.com/products/wko4/charts. The whole charts idea and the ability to share them freely is going to be incredible. As soon as someone figures out some predictive model it can be published and we can all use it by dragging and dropping. Not sure how they are going to control all the charts submissions, but they will figure it out. I'd love to have a page for "requests" where wicked smart people can bang away at ideas from others.
I think the modeling idea is going to be incredibly powerful but it's going to take a while. When I get a little more comfortable, I'm going to give it a go.
I've signed up for the next webinar. "Getting Started with WKO".
I've been looking at some of the data and took a stab at the 5 hour power to see if I could figure any metrics out. One of the new models called the Power Duration Model is supposed to be able to predict your mean maximal power over a wide range of times. According to the webinar (as I understood it) the short stuff was not nearly exact as the longer term stuff 0ver 5+ minutes. As you got over 20 minutes and on to hours the statistical fit seemed pretty impressive. So I pulled up my data and compared the PD Model 5 hour power to my mean maximal power and it's off by miles. Seems useless to me. Have I missed something? Am I an outlier? I would think that if the model could come close to predicting time, then we could use it for planning. Anyone else compare predicted vs actual? It's in the Power Duration Pack and the related chart is the PD metrics. I put my curser over the 5 hour amount on the X axis to see both PD power and MMR power.
If you are looking at building graphs, here is a list of all the published expressions.http://help.trainingpeaks.com/hc/en-us/articles/204906860-WKO4-Basic-Expression-Guide. Let me know if you can figure out how to break some of these apart. I'm trying to look at just time at threshold by week over a selected period of time. The expression "cogganclassic" gets all the zones. Any idea how to get rid of all but threshold?
Ah, good question, hadn't thought of this. I like the separate sports and combined PMC features of TP so would keep both accounts if WKO4 doesn't play nice with the run...swim is a bonus.
