TROUBLE DOWNLOADING GARMIN 500 DATA!! HELP!!

Suddenly I am having trouble reading my Garmin 500 to download workouts. I guess it has something to do with software updates but I have not been able to figure it out. Anybody going (or has gone) through the same and solved?

Thanks for any help.

  • What kind of error are you getting? I don't have a 500, but kind of thing happens to me every now and then with the 910XT.
  • @Nemo, tks for your reply. I don´t even get an error message. My computer(s) are simply not reading "anything" from the 500. Until recently it was a very easy "plug and play" operation where I would connect the 500 to de USB port, it would shou up as an external drive and either Garmin connect or Training peaks would read it ... simply click and "bingo". Now it simply does not even show up in the screen in any way or form.I have even switched cables just in case but nothing happens. I have also tried it in 3 different Apple computers and one Windows desk top ... nothing!!! The unit does show up charging so it is in some form connecting to the computer´s power unit ...... TOTAL MISTERY!!!

  • Juan I've had that happen with the 500 when the contacts in the unit got gobbed up with junk. Try cleaning out the contacts with a qtip and rubbing alcohol.
I will also connect mine and sometimes it will just sit there and do nothing and I have to move it around to a different USB port and then it will wake up. My PC will usually ask if I want to format it and I just say no and it shows up.

You can also read through this thread and maybe find some different ideas, but it's usually the contacts, cable or the port itself that is the culprit.
