Cassettes On Sale (including 11/28) - 5/7 only

I know a number of people have been looking for new cassettes.  I have had really good luck with the new Shimano Ultegra 6700 series (they work with all Shimano and Sram 10-speed systems).

Bike Nashbar currently has them on sale for $69.99 (normally $99.99) plus today (5/7) only they are offering another 20% off if you spend $75.  Therefore the cassette under $60.

They have 11-23,11-25,11-28,12-23,12-25 available.

  • Matt- I orderd this last week when they had their 20% off day last week. They just got some 11-28's in because my order was filled yesterday. If you add a bottle or two, you get above the $75 price and then you get a great price.

Thanks for bringing this up last week also!
  • @Matt, do you have a job or do you just browse these sites all day? LOL
  • At under $60, i don't think anyone in the haus has an excuss not to be geared correctly! Glad to hear at least Peter benefited from this.

@Scott, I'm in the process of building up a bike and need a few small parts so I have been watching some of the normal sites where I see good deals.
  • Thanks, Matt!  I  snagged an 11-28 for MOO. Just in case...

  • I am debating between purchasing a 6600 12/27 or a 6700 11/28.  I talked to a guy at Competitive Cycling the other day and he said if I put on an 11/28 I would need a new chain.  I will prolly get a new chain either way because it has been 3 year on the current chain.  MY question is if I do get the 11/28 + new chain, can I use that same chain with my current cassestte of 11/23 or will I need to change out chains as I switch out cassetts?  He also said I would not need a new chain for the 12/27.  This stuff is new to me, so still on the learning curve.  I am guessing the need for a new chain on the 11/28 is the extra room for the bigger cog?

  • Thanks Matt just ordered my 11-28
  • Maybe, could it also be due to the spacing between the links? Like how big the link is?
  • I have been able to use the same chain with an 11-23 and an 12-27. I don't have any 28, but I think the same chain would have made it. It depends on if the how long your current chain is with the 11-23. If it is already tight in the 50 - 23 gearing, then you will probably need a new chain (or to add a few links...but I would just replace it). If there is still a bit of extra chain when you are in that gear combo, you should be able to get away with using the same chain.

Since you have to spend $75 to get this deal, you could pickup a new chain at 20% off as well. FWIW, I replace my chain every year, after 3 years you are probably due for a new chain.
  • Ditto on the chain replacement. I have replaced mine about 6-8 weeks before every IM.

  • @chain replacement once/year, at the beginning of the season with my first tune-up. Always.
  • ALso chain replacement every year with tuneup.
  • THough usually my mechanic says I can go longer. I find that replacing it makes it easier to shift and my polar power device more accurate
  • Bummer the 6700 11-28 are out of stock!!  If I bought the 6600 12-27 would it work with the 6700 chain? or should I stick with 6600 chain or maybe it doesn't matter? help!!  I would like to order this soon, thanks!

  • @kathy, 6600, 6700, 7800, 7900 cassettes and chains are all compatible with each other.

Thanks Matt.  I actually called Nashbar's toll free # and was able to back order the 6700-11/28 at the incredible price of $57!!  I also ordered the new chain, which got me 20% more off!!  Thanks for the heads up on this deal, I am kind of pumped about my new cassette and chain!!  Go figure my boys say, "mom is excited about bike parts!"  Weird   Guess I am not the "norm" mom!
