My new helmet camera

I'm testing out my new toy just in time for ToC. The camera (http://www.vholdr.com/) is super small light, shoots HD and the footage looks awesome. However it doesn't look great on this site i put it on but I'm working on it. Also with other riders in the shot things will be a bit more exciting. That said I think it' going to work out great for ToC

  • too cool! Man, I can't wait for next week!
  • Awesome! We're going to have a blast with that thing!

How many minutes of record time, battery life, etc?

  • Based on the online specs, replaceable battery lasts up to 3 hours, and depending on mode of video chosen and assuming the maximum sized media card (16 GB) you can record 4-16 hrs on a single microSD card.  I wish the battery lasted a bit longer, like 6 hours, but if it did I'd probably be buying one rather than typing this!

Looking forward to all the video of you guys next week!

  • Too cool.  I need one, where did you pick it up Dan?

  • That's so cool. I'll do my best Spartacus impression while on camera. image
  • I paid $315 for the camera at Amazon and then spent another $75 or so on mounts and a 16gb card.

This clip is about 5 minutes from about 90 minutes I shot. Depending on quality I can get a couple hours & probably up to 4. But seriously looking at 90 minutes of cycling footage is daunting so 4 hours would be insanity. What I plan to do it shoot only the cool stuff and not every single mile.

    So far it rocks.
  • Yep, best helmet cam vids I've seen are basically highlights of about 10' of a much longer ride.

We definitely need to do some descending next Friday to test this out

Wait till the afternoon till I show up and can come.

  • Sorry, we have to pick up Nemo at ~3pm =  not back to my place until about 4:30p. That's your ride too, FYI . Might be a good idea to park yourself in the airport bar or something. I forget, are you flying with your bike? Dan, Patrick, Joanne and I have to go down to LAX on Friday to pick up the vans. We can probably send 2 of the vans back up to my place with you and 1 van to pick up Nemo. You can put your bike together, etc, at my place. My interval hill is exactly 16' from my door and 20' up, 10' down and about 12' home, if you want to ride. Pavement is a little sketchy though, for filming, especially if you don't know the ride. The one I want to do with DnP is 9 miles down with perfect pavement. If I can get Sawiris out there it will be really good, assuming Dan doesn't go off the side of the mountain trying to keep up

  • Sounds good.  I am flying with the bike and get into LAX around 12:40ish.  I couldn't resist and went online and got one of the helmet cams also so you can play with too over the week if you like.  Wanted to get good video for the family and not worry about holding the thing and riding anyway.  It should be cool.

  • Trent - very cool the more camera's the better.

Rich - Remember, I'm a roadie now and now a triathlete image

All - I'm a bit of a camera nut and will be bringing 4 cameras with me to document the camp for RnP. I will be THAT guy and will always have camera in hand.
  • Just promise no shots of my backside :-)
  • Youre also in Michigan... Just sayin :-). Happy to race you down a hill :-)

It's all about no fear (right Dan)        OOOOOhhhhh yeah and some skill.

Not that my family expect me to come back in one piece, but can't be any worse than the car was the other week.

  • @Dan..  Got mine in the mail today, gonna try out tomorrow on a ride and looks to be awesome.  Are you going to have a laptop available to donwload video on to at the Tour.  Would love to send some short clips back to the fam.

  • Yeah, I will have a laptop and can upload video files to http://www.vholdr.com/

I'm excited to that you have the camera too. We'll have to rig them differently so we can get shots from different angles.
  • Awesome. You can coach me where to be
