Dave Tallo Micro

A quick one:  I'm three weeks out from IM Muskoka, and the RR normally occurs Saturday.    But I also did Canada a few weeks ago, so there's no amount of R'ing that will deepen my prep for this upcoming R.

I plan to be on course this Saturday.    It's a two-loop dealio, very technical ... think 'Wisconsin, without the flats.'

Would you do this as (a) a legit RR, at race watts, etc, with the intention as a learning experience or (b) as a hybrid course recon/training session, with lap 1 at conservative race watts, emphasis on observing terrain and characteristics,  and lap 2 at slightly higher race watts (or even race pace +5/10) to squeeze a final bit of work?

In either case, I'll finish with a brick run, then drive the bike course one last time with a GoPro and commentary for future viewing in the next few weeks.

  • Dave, great question and yes to the "done enough work"...I would go very easy on lap one...more just be super steady, almost like you are explaining the course to a friend. You know, the one with the racing problem. HAHAHA.

Then take a 15' break, stretch, reset your head, and then ride it at race effort -- aka super steady, flat HR, etc. and see what you get. 112 will be enough work on it's own...I don't think you'll gain anything by going harder there -- it's more work and you can't draw a line to what race day will be.
  • Dave - You know you are a BOSS when your "micro" thread has 22 views (at least at the time of this writing).... image

Peeps have their eye on you!
  • @ Pat- thanks. Makes sense. Stop me before I race again!
@ Dino - it would be impressive until you realize that I was 19 of those 22 views.
  • I have looked several times

  • Can't wait for the update!
