  • I'm lurking here from the Nov OS...

You guys are just inspiring and awesome to be testing on a holiday week and crushing it! Way to set the bar nice and high for the rest of us...

  • My wife and I share an ipod. I was a little worried when I pressed play and heard the Dixie Chicks.

I was hoping to be a little faster. A 5 point vDot bump from 8 weeks ago, but still 4 below where I was in June (before my running hiatus).

I hope every one has a great holiday and continues to have great test results.

Tom, a 5 point bump in vDot is huge!  Congrats.

Despite playing a couple of hours of ultimate frisbee and touch football yesterday at a work picnic which led to my right knee swelling pretty good (I need to stick to going straight, none of this cutting back and forth!) I still tested this morning.  It was tough, but I survived.

New vDot is 54.5, up from 52 just 5 weeks ago.

    5k (3.1miles) total time: 18:28

    Mile 1 - 5:47

    Mile 2 - 5:58

Mile 3 - 6:04 (definitely faded down the stretch!)

Congrats to everyone on nailing the tests this week!  I'm  looking forward to building my new road bike today and doing lots of riding over the long weekend!  Happy Thanksgiving!

  • Tom, a 5 point VDOT bump?  Maybe we should all listen to the Dixie Chicks while running.

I'm glad I'm  not the only one nervous about these tests.  I was having running nightmares the night before my VDOT test, and my heart was pounding out of nervousness long before I ever started running .

I had a very disappointing FTP test today.  My Powermeter is brand new and I'm just learning how to use it, but, unfortunately, the numbers don't lie.  I tested indoors on the trainer this morning, and got an FTP of 150 watts, with w/kg of 3.0.  I always thought of the bike as my strength, so clearly some improvements must be made.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, everyone, and good luck to those doing VDOT tests at Turkey Trots!

  • Kristen- don't be disappointed. RnP have consistently said that it takes a few tries to really learn to test with the PM and if you think the bike is your strength then it isimage

Did my Vdot test this afternoon between afternoon continuity clinic and baby service night float. I mostly am NICU coverage but am covering the mother-baby unit side tonight too. Joy, I love doing my job plus someone else's. Anyway, ran 25:48 for 3 miles compared to 27:49 for 3 miles week 1, vdot from 32.3 to 35.3. I think Patrick's heads/tails prediction was 36 so his Starbucks is likely a slam dunk too.

I do a 3 mile course because it's repeatable because that is the standard distance of the Marine Corps fitness test and one of their marked courses with a nice wide pedestrian/bike lane is only about 4 miles from my house. I entered the 'biathlon series' put on by Waikiki Swim Club so I'll be doing three 5 km runs/ 1000 m swims at Ala Moana beach park with the first one being 'Christmas' on Dec 5th and then Magic Island in January(they all start/finish on Magic Island-duh) and Valentine's on Feb 14th. Good vdot testing with competition rather than just myself and the misty rain.

  • Pop FTP test today.

It was just so nice out this  morning that I decided I needed to get the test done this morning before the feasting begins. Took Bikey, yes I said Bikey, my 4 year old help me name my bike, of the trainer and hit the roads in upstate NY. Boy, I wish I had roads like this back in NJ. It is going to be hard putting it back. Hopefully the nice weather lasts through the weekend.

Holy WATTS, Batman! Started the OS at 195, took a slight bump 4 weeks ago during my final race, topped out today at 228 for a 33 watt gain! I think I am going to discover a new definition for work, i.e. pain, starting next week. BTW, is there a Double-Or-Nothing clause in the Heads I Win/Tails You Lose agreement.

Hope everyone has a fantastic Thanksgiving and gets some quite time to enjoy their family. I know that is where I am headed right now!

    Pete

  • Crikey Pete! That is a heck of a bump in wattage! Excellent work. Dang, you are a STUD! Definitely earned yourself some good eatin' today.

Did my vDot test at our local 4 mile Turkey Trot. I wasn't going in with much in the way of expectations because I was up a lot last night not feeling well. I did the run and ended up with a meager 2 point bump. Up to 44. I still have work to do to reach my April high of 46. My plan is to surpass that though, so I'm OK taking it 2-3 points at a time. Now it's TG time, and honestly I really just feel like eating pasta with olive oil and sea salt....which is kind of a drag. Oh well.

Giving thanks for all of you for being my mojo team!! Happy Thanksgiving to all of you and your families!!!
  • Wow, Pete, you were rockin' it!  Way to go!

Olivia, I think a 2 point VDOT jump is great!  I have no doubt you will quickly achieve the numbers you want.  I hope you are feeling better and that the Thanksgiving meal agreed with you.

I ran in the turkey trot in Houston, a 10k, with a time of 50:25 that I was happy with, especially after the bike test yesterday.  I hate parking at this particular event, so I parked 1.5 miles away and turned the 10k into a little over 9 miles.

I know Houston has gotten a lot of flak for being one of the fattest cities in the nation, but you wouldn't know it by the number of people that turned out for the Turkey Trot.  It was packed!   It makes me happy to see so many people out doing something good for themselves.

    Happy Thanksgiving, group!

  • Ugh! Don't tell anyone, but I don't like running 5Ks... so much harder than a steady Half or 10K... but, the plan called for a 5K test... 23:52 and a new vDot at 40-41 (using the book and it doesn't do halves). Still, not to shabby but I don't know how well that will translate to a longer distance. I think my lungs wanted to explode around mile 3...
