PowerTap Pro+ Settings

OK, just got my PowerTap Pro+ the other day and got it all setup, I think?  Anyways went for a short ride today for the first time ever outside with power.  I played with the settings some to see what would happen.  Seems that if I have the watts display value set at 10, I get a more steady reading than having it at 1,2,3 or 5, although 5 isn't that bad.  Is this where most of you have your settings for watts, speed and cadence?

Also for those of you that only use the powertap computer, what do you like to have it show you while riding.  I've always just had a Cateye showing me time, speed and cadence, I used a Polar for HR.  Any help here would be Greatly Appreciated!!  I just want to get this setup the best way I can get and get the most benifit from using power outside.

Thanks in advance,

Power Newbie

  • I'm fairly new to the PT myself. I experimented with taking the display intervals up to 5 seconds but didn't like the lag; I found I prefer 3 seconds. As for the display, I have Watts on top, Cadence in the middle, and either time or distance on the bottom depending on what I'm doing (distance for a race or time trial, time for a workout). I never even look at speed; it will be what it will be.
  • What Kevin said.

  •  I would recommend:

    1. 3 or 5 secs for display rate.

    2. 1 sec for record rate

    3. Include zeros for power, speed and cadence

    4. Auto-zero torque = yes

That's all I can think of right now.

We should really put this in the Wiki.  Would be a huge help for folks getting their PT for the first time.  Any Wiki workers out there who can help?
