Turby's RR #2 for Kona

Hey Rich. My second RR for Kona is scheduled for Sept 26th (the day before IM Chattanooga). My bike gets dropped off for shipping on Sept 20th, the week before. Carol is racing IM Choo so I'll be down there with my road bike but would rather do the really important RR #2 on my TT bike on a familiar course. Need some help with how to structure the training after RR #2 on the 20th of Sept.

Best, Turby

    Hey Turby,

Sorry, I'm confused. Sounds like you want to do the RR probably on Saturday, 9/19 then drop the bike off on 9/20? I believe this would be in wk17 for you vs wk18, as scheduled in the plan? If that's the case:

    • The week of 9/14, do the wk18 schedule.
    • The week of 9/21 do the wk18 schedule again, but you'll obviously need to amend that to account for travel, etc. While you won't be on your tri bike, I think it would still be valuable to get in a ride of the IMChat course on your road bike...but maybe do 1 vs 2 loops? Or 2 loops minus the admin out/back to town? We can talk about the pro/cons of each in Chat at the team dinner on Thurs.

Let me see if I can hook up a loaner road bike and maybe we can do an EN ride, of sorts, for people in town to not-race

  • That's just what I needed to know! Thanks!! Definitely want to do a ride in Choo. Look forward to seeing you down there!

Cool. I've hooked up a loaner so I'll show you the Pigeon Toe Grill and the town of Chimichanga

  • As long as they have cold beer!

  • Turby, quick update: this past weekend I went for my first dirt bike moto ride...and did a great job of dumping the bike on my lower leg on a gnarly trail. I've got a sweet bruise + limp going on. Nothing broken, nothing strained, just a good whack.

It's healing quickly but don't know what shape it will be in by this weekend. And a lot of moving parts with getting a bike to join you so I'm going to have to bail on you. No worries, you'll enjoy riding the course. See you in a few days!

  • So glad it didn't happen before you KILLED it at IMMOO!! Huge congrats to you! Well done! Heal up and I'll see you down there.

Yeah, was a good reminder of why I didn't ride at all for over 6mo . And what's funny is that because I don't need to be training for anything I took my boot off, saw there was no blood, nothing broken, or strained and just "meh, just a fleshwound. I don't need to ride or run right now anyway so...whatevs!"

Typical guy shit, don't tell Carol
