Cervelo crash-replacement program

I understand that Cervelo has a "crash replacement bike policy" that will in essence replace the frame or entire bike (I'm unclear which) for a heavy discount if the frame is destroyed by a bike crash. Does anyone have experience or information for me on this? I've been in touch with my local Cervelo dealer who has confirmed it to some degree but would like details from someone's experience. Looks like I have a cracked top tube (amongst other damages), and prefer to replace over fix if it makes sense. Thanks!!

  • My buddy had a cracked BB on his R3 on an older model that was known to have that defect over time and they sent him the current year model frame at no cost. 3 months later he was hit by a car and now the frame is totaled. He's just waiting on all the insurance garbage to clear so I don't have any information on where he is with replacing the new frame.

This is not super recent but it might help. I think the best thing is to reach out to them, they seem willing to work with their customers.

  • Brad, my seat post failed and they did the frame for me, not components...but I went through the folks who I bought it from (Inside Out Sports)...and what I did (not sure if kosher) was to say "instead of giving me a 2015 replacement P2 or P3, let's put that to a P5 and I'll pay the difference."

Voila, nothing makes you heal faster than a new bike! image
  • Thanks Attila and P....have to agree, the idea of a new bike and I swear I can feel the fusing already! I'll follow up when I have news.
  • Same thing happened to me last year, but I have a Felt. One Felt dealer would not help me at all, while another Felt dealer was extremely helpful. Point being, if one Cervelo dealer is not very helpful, try another one. All else fails, buy a Felt, haha
  • Hi Brad,

I just went through this back in June. I own a Cervelo P2. Frame cracked while tightening the seat post (using the torque wrench) Brought in into the bike shop same day. They took pictures and sent it in to Cervelo. Cervelo honoured the warranty that same afternoon. Frame only, no components. Key is you have to be the original owner (or be able to work closely with them...right Patrick? image and have the original bill of sale. All which I had. Original bike was 2012, they sent me a 2014.

Shop swapped over the components for me for a total cost of $ 67.00 CAD ...that's like getting a new bike for $ 20.00 USD!

I would try the "upgrade" route...never hurts to ask.

    Best of luck!
    Natalie
  • I've heard of a couple of other people who bought a "pay the difference upgrade" like Patrick under similar circumstances.
  • Update on this:

My stitches came out today and I finally got the go ahead to drive a bit (I feel like a 16 yo with a new drivers license!) I finally brought my bike to the shop today (a Cervelo dealer). The frame is most likely cracked, but they plan to pull it all apart and inspect everything. They told me that they've dealt with Cervelo on issues like this many times, and that I can get a new frame, and most likely upgrade it if I wish. If this is the case, I will most likely go with a P3 and move my Ultegra componants (that aren't damaged), Quarq, wheels, etc to a new frame. The piece of mind over getting it repaired would make me feel better.

Thanks for the advice and I'll update the thread as I know more.
