Powertap Gone Caput?

So when I went for my Saturday ride, my PT was not working. Doh! Worked fine at camp last week, thank goodness! So I figured maybe something happened during shipping that wore the battery down so I changed them. Nope. Attempted to re-pair it w Garmin. Nope. Power meter on road bike working fine and playing nice with Garmin. The PT in question is maybe from 2011-ish and I've had zero issues til now. What do I do next? (Bought via EN and Wheelbuilder). I'm sure it is out of warranty but would like to get it fixed or replaced as needed ASAP.
Do I reach out to Wheelbuilder? PT?

For now, I can swap out the rear wheels and put the newer PT on the tri bike while I resolve. Of course they have a different rear cassette....

  • I'd reach out to PT. I have used their customer service a couple of times and always been happy.
I'd test the batteries to make sure they are good
are batteries pushed in all the way?
Is the big wire damaged or loose?
Is the battery holder pushed securely back into place?
Can you try picking up power with another device.

If you've done all that, then call tech support.
  • My powertap played dead on me for a bit and I ended up racing CDA without power. I had changed the battery and that didn't fix it. Then just for kicks I changed it again and it's been fine ever since. Not sure if I had a dead battery or just did something dumb putting it in.
  • Just tried it again for kicks and now it is working! Woohoo! I'll check it again tomorrow...
