Hey Coach P,  I'm starting Week 15 of the Intermediate IM plan in preparation for IMLou.  That means Camp Week.  One of my long rides is a century on Monday (Labor Day) which is a local organized ride but at your own pace.  Is it ok to do long run on Friday or Saturday and then do the back to back long rides on Sunday and Monday?  With work schedule this is probably the only way I can get it all in.  Thanks.    -Jay

  • Jay, sure...just do it early on Saturday and be ready for some tired legs on those rides!!!! image
  • Coach P, I've just finished Week 16 of IM Intermediate and think I'm actually gonna get through this plan. This weekend I'm gonna move the long ride to Sunday because I've signed up for a sprint that is on Saturday. I've done it 4 years in a row and enjoy it because my 12yo does it with me. Question is "Is it ok to go hard and blow it out or should I back off and use it more for training?' IMLou will be 3 weeks out. Need some guidance on hard to push this weekend. Thanks.
  • Jay, you WILL do this! image Hell, you already are. For the sprint, I say just build your effort all day. At no point should you be going flat out on the swim or bike...but you can push the last mile of the run. Otherwise it's fast, but controlled.

  • Hey Coach P! I just finished week 17 of training for IMNC. I still haven't done my long run because of work and family commitments. I was planning to do it Wednesday of week 18. I feel good about the run but think I should do this for confidence. Any strong contraindications to doing a long run 17 days out? Thanks. Jay R.
  • I say just plan on keeping the pace locked down and be ready to shut it down if you don't feel good. Let me know how it goes!
  • Thanks Coach P. It was a major fail. Battling some fatigue and plantar fasciitis. Started to see HR go down and pace was slowing. Then I started getting cold and my foot hurt. All bad signs in my book. Got in 13 miles total. No worries. I think I'm ok on run fitness so will keep moving on. Sending my best mojo to the Kona team for tomorrow! Keep 'em moving forward!
  • I like where your head is at. Let's keep up the self care over these final weeks. Sometimes on race day you don't even feel this stuff...but we'll have to wait and see. Continue to be cautious!!!
