  • John, that is the BEST IMCHOO training day EVER:-) Sounds heavenly and so much more important than anything else!
Pat and the rest of you who are traveling so much and working full time (which is most of you), I am so impressed! Not sure how you manage to get it all in, but you do! Sometimes - the more you have to do, the more gets done! I remember that from years ago when I was a single Mom, working full time and going to college. I look back and say: WHAT??? You guys are amazing!
So - I'm pretty excited about the weekend:-) Saturday I did my last Race Rehearsal. Mostly because I needed to coordinate my training with Turby's and Coach P. said it was fine to have a 3-week taper. I rode 110 miles with an IF of .706 which was perfect! It was a beautiful day with Turby and friends down in South Jersey where there is MUCH less traffic than around us! I ran about 4 miles after but cut it short because my daughter and my Grandkids were at my house swimming in the pool and we had over an hour drive home! It was so hard for me to be riding, knowing they were home... but my daughter is very supportive of my training and was totally fine with it. Turby's daughter came and hung out with them, so I felt good about that! Today was a beautiful day, and they stayed until about 1:00. At which point... Turby and I hightailed it to our long run! I wasn't sure how that was going to go, after the RR yesterday, but after many miles of feeling pretty miserable, it somehow kicked in and I was just running on autopilot! SO happy I got the 20-miles in and can now officially begin the taper:-))) Taking off tomorrow to visit my son and other Grandkids so that will be a good day, then it's back at it!! Happy Labor Day everyone and enjoy your hot dogs and hamburgers (well, maybe not Brenda:-))
  • I second Carols thoughts...what a great day John!

Saturday had me riding 5 hours and NOT 100 miles as my left hammy and right knee were a bit grumpy. I could feel it on the hills, so like last week I pushed the brick off as well. My watts, mojo were low and never really kicked in (usually it just takes a lap of the park to wake up and get grooving).

My son went off to college on Tuesday (he has never been away from home before) and he is miserable. Daily talks and he just wants to leave. Then Friday he called because of a nasty bug bite on his face. Saturday during the ride he sent pics of how his "bug bite" spread. A couple more calls of distress and we told him if it got worse, we'd come take him to urgent car (the health center on campus is closed...nice.) Yesterday, I was in the car heading to get him to urgent care and yep....chicken pox. He is home and may miss the first few days because he can't go back till he's no longer contagious. When I arrived home 7 hours after I'd left, my daughter shared she dropped her recently replaced cell in the toilet. That is when I declared I was getting drunk. image BUT...I'm not a great drinker, so after half a beer I napped. Does that count?

My mama bear stress has been very high with the boy, and my IMCHOO fatigue has taken root. I got a massage (new guy as my regular guy who is kick ass has been out due to health the last 12 weeks) and it didn't really address the knee or hammy so I'm taking yesterday as a sign for the extra recovery. 6 hours on my butt in the car isn't really good for my legs, but I wasn't biking! image I'll go to the park and ride 3.5, and brick only as far as the sticks allow today.

    Happy Labor Day all!
  • Trish, OMG I feel for you! So sorry about your son and the chicken pox and not liking school and all of that HIGH stress! When my daughter went off to college (she's the oldest), I cried every day for 3 months. It was so awful. Then the following year my son left, and he came home every weekend because he hated it! Finally I said: NO MORE! You have to stay there and figure it out. LOL Which he did:-) Joined a fraternity and I never saw him any more! So do not give up! Meanwhile, you have all of your training in the bank, so do not worry about it at all. A 5-hour ride is perfect and just enough to keep your fitness up! At this point, I think we all have to trust our training (since friggin' January!!) and just go with what the day gives us. We will all be at the finish line at some point and that is all we can hope for!! SO looking forward to that moment:-))) Hang in there sweetie!
  • John- That sounds fantastic!

Carol- Congrats on the kick-ass RR!

Trish- So sorry about your stress! What timing with the chicken pox! Ugh!

Did the WKO shuffle due to the holiday so Sunday's WKO was oN Monday....Pretty good ABP ride w 1:06 @ .77IF then a FABULOUS 6 mile brick run with the wifey. Nice n slow EZ Z1 out then hit Z2 & 3 back. (Granted gravity is ever so slightly in my favor coming back on the trail but I'll take it) Needed a good run for my mental sanity....
