Fuel belt

Just got a new aero tri suit which is awesome but doesn't have any pockets so am liking to get a fuel belt for IMMOO in a couple weeks. I took a quick look and there are a ton of options.

Suggestions on what to get? Will be looking to carry gels only...all liquids will be sourced on course.

I'm doing the exact same thing and hit up P last night to ask what he carries, uses. I'm looking at this, race belt with loops for gels. Plan to put 5-6 gels in this to use in the first half of the run, then 2x Clif block sleeves picked up at RSN that I tuck into the legs of the suit. Fluids and Base Salt from run aid stations.

The one you linked is the exact one I have. It is a bit of a pain to stick the gels in, but there is no danger of them falling out. Works as advertised.

I have the exact same belt with the gel loops. Agree with Peter...PITA to get the gels into the belt but they are secure and easy to pull out.

But if the belt gets here on Friday I have 9 days to put 5-6 gels into it, correct? I guess I'll need to pace myself...

I have one that described above, but also has a small pouch that hides under your bib number and you can access the zipper just above it. I have used the loops for gels (tough to get in, easy to get out), and there is plenty of room in the pouch for salt or clif blocks. Not sure if they still make this one, but you can still buy them online. Here is what I have:

AARRGHH! Excess baggage on the run alert!!!

Two other options to consider if all want is *your* gel on the run:

• Tuck the little packets under the suit on the side or back of the leg - I haven;t seen the suit yet (it;s awaiting me when I get home this weekend), but the bottom of the thigh is tight enough to keep them from falling out, no? This is what I do on stand-alonne marathons.
• Carry a 5-6 oz bottle with gel inside; put another one is special needs if you need more than that. This is what I do on IM marathons. But I use EFS, which comes in flasks, and is rather liquid-y. Hammer gel is similar. Years past, I took the time to squeeze PowerGel or some other thicker gel into a flask. Certainly this can;t be more of a hassle than fiddling with putting the packs in and getting them out, along with putting on and wearing the damn belt?

I had a Fuel Belt thingy with loops for gels for my first HM and the damn things fell out before Mile 1. Could have been operator error but just a watch-out...

...arrgghh...that's exactly what I want but it appears to only be available in Barney Purple. Fashion is just as important as form so not sure about this one...

@Al: the leg length on the LG suit is pretty long. Like several inches longer than regular cycling bibs, and the end isn't an elastic leg-gripper thingy. I could see some frustration trying to stuff gels in there as I'm running out of T1, carrying a go bag, putting on watch, etc. Since you gotta where a race belt and the belt has loops for gels...done.

Although I understand Al's point of less being better, as you said, you need to put a race belt on anyway....

Heads up that the little lace lock thing which actually holds your race number on this belt will come off if you rush into a portalet too quickly. I looked at it for about 0.002 seconds and realized I was not fishing it out of there - finished the rest of the event with my number held on by one lace lock. Luckily Fuel Belt sells extras pretty cheap.

I have the LG M2 trisuit, which has tiny pockets that require practically completely unzipping the suit to access. I use the below FuelBelt race belt that has loops for gel and a pocket for storage. It worked out nicely for my last race.

Excess baggage approved if it carries nutrition. Just remember to ditch it all and zip up the front of your jersey in time for the Gang Sign at the finish!
