New Sneaks?

I noticed some pain on the balls of my feet towards the end of today's run and wondering if new sneaks with newer cushioning might help, or if it is just a fact of being on your feet for 3+ hours?  Also, I'm hesitant to get new ones 3 weeks out from IMChoo but I would get the same kind.  Per Strava, these only have about 200 miles on them but not sure if that is 100% accurate.  (I may not have logged them from the start)

To sneak or not to sneak....

  • If that's all that's bothering your after 3+ hrs running, you're in better shape than most of us. That said, there's nothing wrong with getting a new pair of the same shoes you're in now, using them the next 3 weeks, then racing in them. You can always continue to alternate your old shoes with the new over the next several months, they should be fine a while longer.
  • LOL Al. No, I had other aches and pains but that was the only one that new sneaks might fix! In IMFL, I got blisters in that same area which really impacted my run so I'm trying to avoid that.
  • Kim, have you tried putting vaseline inside your socks for long runs? I always do this now, because if I don't, my feet hurt - usually on the balls of the feet. For a race, I turn the socks inside out and coat the bottoms with vaseline so they are ready to put on after you turn them back. For a training run, I just gob up the bottoms of my feet with vaseline and put my socks on. Just a thought... I just got a new pair of Hokas and will be running in them throughout race day. I think you'd be fine if you get a new pair ASAP, like Al said...
  • You're fine getting a new pair now as long as they are the same kind and you get them ASAP.
  • I've suffered from what I think you're describing with pain on the balls of your feet. Never seems to be both at the same time, usually just either L or R. New set of shoes always does the trick and the pain will be less and less noticeable over the course of a couple weeks. Good luck and enjoy your new kicks!
