IMCHOO Training Wk 9/14 - 9/20 2015

THE BOX

This week think about YOUR box, what you learned in RR1 and RR2 and how you can keep the box as large. Remember you are not out there trying to make anything happen on race day. You are keeping that box as large as you can for as long as you can, you're focused, calm, collected and executing ninjas.
All day long you are going to race inside a box defined by what you can control. Ask yourself "What do I need to do right NOW to create the conditions for success at The Line? Is what I'm doing right now counter to this goal?
Advice: On the swim, the Box is the space your body occupies in the water: focus on your form and the rest will come. On the bike, the box is probably about one aid station long. On the run, the box begins as 2-3 aid stations long but often diminishes to "from here to the next lampost/manhole cover/mail box." Regardless:

Keep The Box as big as you can for as long as you can.
Keep in The Box only the things you can control. Let go of the rest.
Exercise this decision-making process inside your Box: Observe the situation, Orient yourself to a possible course of action, Decide on a course of action, Act (OODA Loop).

  • I actually watched the 4 Keys DVD last night. Love it. Coach P's face any time that Coach Rich is talking is priceless! I can't cram enough EN in during these last two weeks before our race. PUMPED!!!
  • Got the z4 run in tonight but did 4 x 1/2 mi instead of 1 or 2 x 1 mile, mostly cuz I remembered it wrong. Doh!

So how's everyone feeling mentally? My emotions and thoughts change daily and include confident, terrified, stressed, excited, nervous, unprepared, fit, etc. I'm going to be a peach to live with the next week.....
  • Hello my name is JB and I have negative/positive/confusing thoughts about the race in 12 days!!!

Btw, I just threw up when I typed 12... I know physically I am ready. I know mentally when race day is here I will shut the brain down and do what I know to do during race day. But man this next few days is going to kill me. I agree with Kim, I'm going to be a bear to be around and live with.
  • All normal. Just keep in perspective what it is you can control. I.e. Your box. Stay there. Even in the days leading up.

How are the race plans coming?

I seriously bought a ukulele to avoid negative thoughts. call friends you've lost touch with through training to catch up. Find a good book. At this point, it's all about taking it day by day image
  • Got a shortened swim in my swimskin yesterday in my lake. Toes were frozen by 26' so turned it around. I was pretty numb all the way around by the time I got out. Only slightly slower than the wetsuit though so theres that. image Got my 2x1 th run later in the afternoon and unlike last year, did not have to limp home with an injury. WIN!

I've ordered my parts for FIONA with Ron at my LBS (aka Mr. Wonderful) and her spa appointment is tomorrow. image It seems all my stuff is wearing out/breaking down. I have him taking a very close look at her for any worn parts since she is in her 5th season. I should be receiving a new hr monitor today to pair with my stuff.

I have started work on my race plan, and printed out the athlete guide info I want. I am signed up for the webinar tomorrow and want to have my race plan done today. I'm struggling with estimates of time and pace for my plan. I don't want to be too fluffy due to my training or to aggressive so I either 1. booger the bike and run or 2. feel like a weenie when I don't hit the numbers. image

Overall, I am enjoying taper because I don't have a massive goal I am trying to crush. Just a vertical finish with a run that has me walking only at aids like my last 2 IM's and doing the best I can with the fitness I've got. I am not enjoying the fact that my husband brought home 5 (they were on sale) pints of Hagen Dazs!!! I asked for this new ice-cream that is low sugar high protein and like 280c a pint. They didn't have it, but ....well...image I whined and he told me to picture Coach Rich giving me a dirty look while eating the ice cream. Worked so far lol!
  • ATTENTION CHOOCREW! Remember, Pre Race Webinar is tonight! 8pmEST Updated Link Here: http://bit.ly/1W458PF
  • So did the webinar get cancelled? Unable to sign in. Got an email from Patrick with the subject line "pre race call for IM choo cancelled" but the body of the email talked about Augusta 70.3?
  • It is going on right now- register with the link I put on the dash and use that link from the email
  • Missed the choo
talk also from coach, email said it was canceled.
  • So far only got in the bike and the run this week. Lots of work crap plus bike prep and packing for Tribike transport which was a last minute change. My parents were going to bring my bike but their race attendance is tbd (will knowledge tomorrow hopefully) but needed to make alternate arrangements. That pushed everything bike related up one week. Anyway, bag is packed with misc "stuff" to go with the bike so feeling good about progress!

Anyone else using Myathlete.com tracker? Mine is on it's way. I used it for IMFL and is terrific for your spectators!!
  • TBT grabbed my bike this afternoon...shit just got real! Choo Choooooo!
  • Well, folks.... It's really really getting scary!!!   One more week from now, and hopefully we will all be off the bike or getting close to it!  I am really looking forward to getting down there and settling in.  We are driving down, leaving Wed. morning and staying over somewhere along the way (It's 12 1/2 hours, so we will stop after about 8-ish).  Should arrive in plenty of time to check out the bike course before the EN dinner.

This week has gone pretty well, training/tapering wise.  I could not swim all week due to the chemical burn of the corneas from last Friday's swim with the new goggles.  I rinsed them every day this week and swam short on Friday.  I thought they were okay, but Sat. morning I woke up to "gookie" eyes so I said "the hell with it!  Back to the old goggles".  I swam 2.4 on Saturday with the old ones, and had no problems.  We had to drive up to North Jersey to drop off Turby's bike at TBT, so that took a chunk of time out of the day and pushed my bike/run back to today.  Had a great ride with the Z3 intervals and the legs felt good!  Did all the other workouts this week (minus the swims) and felt great. Thursday I was visiting my daughter/Grandkids so I ran with her for 8 miles.  OMG - there are BIG hills out in PA!   LOL  It's always fun when we run together:-)  So now I have to get myself organized.  I have a "to do" list a mile long and will chip away in the next couple of days.

I'm probably not going to do an "official" race plan.  I've done 2 different bike split estimates; 1 said 6:45 and the other said 7:00.  I'm hoping closer to the 6:45:-)  The swim will be whatever it is.  I'm a slow swimmer, so I just will do my best and get it done.  My main goal is to have a IM marathon PR!  My previous 3 marathons have been pretty slow, due to stomach issues every time!  I've been working on the nutrition and hopefully will have a better run this time.  Going totally by heart rate as well.  It's going to be a blast seeing all the ENers out there on the course!  Turby will be cheering (probably with Rich), so he'll be looking for you as well:-)

Hope you all are doing okay with this tapering.  I felt like my hormones were all messed up yesterday!  LOL  remember I'm 65 so that has not been an issue for many years:-)

Woohoo!  See you all later this week!!!

  • Hello Everyone! Please be sure to finalize team dinner information tonight/tomorrow. Update the event sheet above so I can give the restaurant a count. Also if you knew anyone who raced CHOO last year, I have a super special CHOOCREW only present from your race captain (thats me) so I want to make sure I have enough for everyone. Really looking forward to seeing you all there, getting tons of hugs and passing out more Ironman Mojo than is legally allowed!
  • SOOOOOO looking forward to seeing everyone at the dinner!!
    Safe travels and smooth packing!
    BOOM!
  • Got in a 30mi bike Sat. am Z2-3ish (no power meter) and 5.66 mi run on Sunday, part of it with the wife and 1 of the dogs. Might swim tonight, or maybe not. Will get in the brick on Tues. then that might possibly be it til race day except maybe a short last spin on the bike to make sure it is still working. And maybe a trot on the riverwalk at some point. For me, any WKOs closer to the race cause more mental stress than they are probably worth, so I generally let it go.
