Possible emergency for IM Choo

Morning Coach P, I think I got an emergency but I need your advice.  I did the normal training volume for week 18 (which I felt good on, tired but good).  But last week (week 19) I had an unexpected class I had to attend that was out of town.  The class was not overly physically demanding but their were long days, usually 10+hrs a day.  So now we're in week 20 and I need some direction.  Below is what I have an idea for but want to make sure:

Sunday: B-120, R-30; Monday: S-60, B-180, R-30; Tuesday: S-60, R-70; Wednesday: S-60, B-90; Thursday: B-?, R-?; Friday: R-30, Sat. rest

  • Eric-- I know the Micro Forum is just for the coaches, but just in case Coach P doesn't get back to you in time, I'll answer it for you.

    THIS.IS.NOT.AN.EMERGENCY.

You are plenty fit. DO NOT try to make up for a couple missed workouts in the last week before your race. Just follow the training plan AS WRITTEN, If I'm reading your idea for your week, it looks like you were thinking about doing a 60 min swim on Monday AND a 3hr bike AND a 30 min run. DO NOT DO THAT. It is way too much work this late in the game.

Just pull up your training plan and do what it says. Seriously, this is the time to taper and have your legs fresh for the race. The only thing you can do at this point by working too hard is to not show up fresh which is WAAAYYY worse than a handful of missed workouts.

Follow the plan as written for this last week...
  • Eric,

Listen to JW.  The tapering has made you crazy in the head.  See you in a few days!

  • John I really appreciate your input! I will do what you recommended. To add to this I think I got a head cold so it makes that much more sense to just do what is on the schedule. I hope that you're training has been going well. I saw what you did in IMWI and thought to myself, "Damn he dialed it up!" Thanks again.

Crosby, hope you are well and your taper is going good. I too am looking forward to seeing you and the others this weekend!!

    Thanks again to you both.
  • That's called the "taper cold"... I get one of those before every race. That too will pass and you'll be ready to Rock by the weekend...
  • Beta-glucans will help prevent the cold. several studies out there in literature show it will help to improve function of your B cells and ability to combat viruses. Not a cure but its cheap easy and safe. Make sure you don't need antibiotics! check with your doctor as well.
reputable company for beta glucans is Wellmune
  • And if you do take anti-biotics (or even if you don't), make sure to take some "pro-biotics". I take pro-biotics in the week before every race to help strengthen my gut biome... even more important if you kill of some of your good bugs with anti-biotics...
  • JW Thank You. Eric, you are all set. Your work was done a few weeks ago...SURPRISE!

Put your energy into building a great race plan and really refining your execution and logistics!!!
  • I do have the Beta-glucans and I will start to take them. I actually was reading some of your race report info JW and I saw that you do take the PB's just before a race. I will start that tomorrow. I cannot thank you guys enough. I actually was going through my garmin calendar and CP, you're right. I am ready, just had to make sure I didn't screw myself with this class last week. Thanks again to you all!!
JW, how are you feeling since IMWI?
  • Can't wait to see you rip it up!
