Rent a wheel for IMMD

So it's been one hell of a year between bike mechanical issues, and nagging, able-to-work-through but annoying little injuries. True to form, on the LAST ride before taking bike to be picked up by TBT, I hear this annoying creaking. Long story short it's the rear wheel, a Zipp 808. Both the LBS, and the more high-end shop I dropped it off for TBT confirmed this, and that it "will get you through the race, but will just be annoying"

 

So my question is: do I pay the money to rent a wheel to 1. avoid wanting to shoot myself after 75-80 miles of creaking, and 2. avoid the mental stress of worrying about if the guys at the bike shops were wrong (I KNOW, taper madness!!).

 

I guess where I'm at now, is get the bike out for a spin when I get to Cambridge on Thur., see if it's the same, and per the advice of the guy at the 2nd bike shop, see if there is a Zipp dealer/tent at the expo and if so whether or not they can help out at all, and go from there. But just wanted to get thoughts on pro's/cons of renting a 808 in the end.

Is it safe to ride? Then I say use your wheels and save your $$

If you do not trust your wheel, I would be inclined to rent one. No need to add another question mark into your day.
