2016 Endurance Nation Regional Race Execution Camps

Team,

First, If you read my 2016 Endurance Nation Calendar post here, and were paying attention, you may have noticed the shift from IMXX Training Camps to Race Execution Training Camps. Second, please see my 2016 Lessons Learned post here, especially regarding the significant evolution in our race execution guidance across the summer. And finally, note that I'm racing Ironman Lake Placid, Patrick is racing Ironman Chattanooga, and we're both instructing at the Lake Placid and Chattanooga camps.

Here is where we are going with these camps:

  • Endurance Nation has an extremely well dialed in system of race execution processes that are applicable to any long course event.
  • Our best venue for teaching these skills to you are at these training camps. Nothing beats face to face, hands-on instruction and application of these process on a challenging Ironman course.
  • In particular, my IMChatt camp was a significant evolution for these camps: I focused on introducing and teaching the campers a step by step race execution process, using the camp rides and runs as an opportunity to rehearse, learn, and rehearse again.
  • 90-95% of ^this^ instruction is applicable to any Ironman event.

And so where we are going with these camps is to step away from the race-specific focus and instead make them regional opportunities for all Endurance Nation athletes to attend, learn, and execute the EN race execution strategies at a venue that works best you. So...

  • We've decide to continue our most successful, well attended camps, in Lake Placid and Chattanooga, as these are the races you've spoken most clearly about with your wallets. They are also excellent venues for teaching you our race execution processes.
  • Rich and Patrick will tag team 5-6hrs worth of race execution instruction. Individually we bring serious game to the art of teaching you guys how to race. With both of us on deck...watch out!
  • You'll then have 3 days of guided training to implement and refine these race execution processes.
  • With our extensive IM venue-specific experience, we'll lead separate breakout sessions to teach you about other courses.
  • As regional vs venue-specific events, hopefully they will be more attractive to more EN athletes.
  • We can target all of our EN admin, marketing, and sponsor resources on these camps to significantly boost the vibe and value of these camps.
  • Finally, I've added a Southwest camp in LA in July, hopefully to create a good value opportunity for our underserved west coast athletes.

Northeast Regional Camp, Lake Placid, June 9-12

If you are an EN athlete living in the Northeast and racing Ironman Wisconsin, for example, attend this camp and (1) get a Masters in EN-style race execution from BOTH Patrick and I and then (2) sit down with me for a one-on-one detailed breakdown of the Ironman Wisconsin course.

Southwest Regional Camp, Monrovia, CA, July 7-10

This camp is for EN athletes in SoCal and the southwest racing any late July through the end of the year Ironman event. I'll get you dialed in on race execution, you'll rehearse these processes on the routes I've been using for years, and then I'll lead breakout sessions on any Ironman required: IMMT, Boulder, Lou, AZ, FL, etc.

Southeast Regional Camp, Chattanooga, August 4-7

Same drill but for southeastern athletes racing late August and later Ironmans, lead by both Patrick and me. An excellent opportunity for IMWI, IMChat, IMLou, and IMFL athletes.

In summary, we have shifted the intent of these camps away from venue-specific instruction and more towards providing you with the absolute best race execution instruction you can imagine, on the best venues for practicing these strategies. These camps will service regions of TeamEN athletes vs athletes racing a specific course.

Please give us your feedback and we hope you decide to attend one of these camps! And if you've attending an EN Ironman training camp in the past, it would be helpful if you could share your experiences with the quality of the instruction we provide at these camps.

Thanks!

  • Awesome! I am racing Placid next year and I am day dreaming about the Northeast Regional camp for RR#1 weekend and then the SoCal camp for RR#2 weekend. It's basically a home game for me. image

    I love the approach! Kudos....

Yeah, that's basically my plan. And I'll probably offer discount on the SoCal camp, to get it off the ground. Will do that as a promo code that I offer to EN, PTC, etc.

  • Disappointed that EN has moved away from race-specific camps. Was looking forward to the IMTX camp and riding the course before race day. But EN is a business and I understand the benefits of consolidating the camps.

Patrick's IMTX camp only had about 7 people and was only viable because he was racing it this year. Likewise, my IMWI camp only had 7-8 people.

As you can imagine, RnP have a minimum we need to net to have these camps make sense for us. This year IMTX and IMWI really worked for us because we were racing these events. Contrast this to IMLP and IMChat camps, where we had 20+ athletes at each. The Team has clearly spoken with their wallets about where they want us to conduct these camps.

    Thanks for understanding!
