My Ironman was cancelled, now what?
I was going to put this in my own "Micro" thread, but thought since it applies to several of us right now, that perhaps I'd start a new thread on the subject.
IMMD just got cancelled (potentially postponed 2 weeks). Understand and respect the decision, sure I'm bummed but you won't hear any "woe is me" stuff from me. I'm just trying to figure out what to do with all this pent up taper energy now!
So here's the question. If the postpone to Oct 17 date actually does happen, and assuming I can align all the planets once again to make the logistics work, what does the training plan look like for the next two weeks? If I just keep tapering I'll be a marshmallow by race day. But I'm also in the direct path of "whatever the hell the name of this weeks TS is" so this weekends training is gonna be trainer rides and such. So what do I do?

Sucks that the race was cancelled but this was announced like 60' ago. I think you should just chill for now. Ultimately, "what now" will be dependent on whether or not they can reschedule the race for 10/17 and if you can go.
Yup- that is an option I'm considering. I have friends going to that race as well (for the half) and they have already reached out to tell me they will find room for me where they are staying.
This week: 3-4 hour ride, 90 minute long run
Next week: 2:30-3:00 hour ride, run frequency up to 60 minutes.
Race week: usual protocal
hopefully they know for sure by Monday if the storm has passed by then. I'm going to go eat a doughnut and drink a beer now.
Nate- I'm with you. I know Rich is right, we need to BREATH!!!! But if I'm gonna do another race, I think I need to get out there this weekend . For me, the trouble is that I'm right in the path of the storm, so getting outside is gonna be tough anyway.
I'm betting on "Green" i.e. the race will be a go for the 17th. If we get notified on Tues that the race is cancelled, my season is over.
Here is what I'm thinking about doing pending anyone else giving me a better idea or reasons as to why this would be a bad idea. I'm open to suggestions at this point. Overall I feel the majority of the impact of this is mental. You don't lose your fitness overnight but I do feel that I need a long bike and longish run this weekend.
No Hero sessions. be aware that I'm tapered and feeling pretty good. stay inside your zones.
Thursday (today) 45 minute run
Friday: Maybe swim (weather dependent). If no swim, go for a run.
Saturday 4 hour ride (yep, indoors, that's ok, I love misery and my youtube videos, been doing it all season). Take the race tire off and trainer tire back on ...ugh.
Sunday: get a 80 to 90 minute easy paced run in. fingers crossed for outdoors. Looks like there may be a window of no rain on sunday.
Next week:
Run frequency (4-5 times) up to 60 minutes, nothing crazy, maybe run 25-30 miles.
Swim at least 2 times. My issue is the lake I swim in is getting cold.
Bike 3 times with 1 session being around 2 hours.
Race week:
usual protocol.
