New Aero Bars

Hello All,

Because of my last IM and the issues i ran into because of the fit of my existing aero bars.  I am hunting for a new setup.  My goal is to have a very flexible setup to ensure they work for me.  I would like to purchase the new set on ebay or used from somewhere and not spend a fortune.

Thoughts????  please help because my upper back cannot take any more of my Zipp Vuka's.

  • Sounds like you should be talking to your fitter
  • +1 on the fitter. Are you planning to sell the zipps?
  • Jonathan, your post reminds me of our discussion on the way to Choo camp. I think simply looking for new aerobars is short-sighted. What you really need to do is just get a whole new bike. That new bike would come with new aerobars. Bam! Many problems solved in one fell swoop. You are welcome for the sage advice and I will simply take your new Zipp wheels as payments for the counsel. Seems fair to me.
  • Can you explain why they don't seem to fit? Extensions too long? Too Short? Pads too narrow? Too wide? Something else?
  • My elbows are bring brought too close together, thus moving my shoulder blades get messed up. With Vuka's you really cant move out the elbow pads out much (i have added the extenders to the bars but it does not open up my arms enough).

Yes i am going to sell my Vuka's
  • @John Henault - Christopher will make me sleep on the couch if i come home with a new bike. He would be pretty pissed.
  • Perhaps you could get some good value for the Vuka's though. Honestly, I'm not sure why we spend the $gajillion on a carbon front end over a good, flexible-fitting aluminum one. I haven't been very tempted to replace the one that came on my P3 several years ago, even though I've replaced several other things. Honestly, since fit is clearly an issue...getting ones that offer you flexibility in that range may be the most important thing. Wish I could give you specifics.
  • Gotta say +1 on refit (if not the new bike, although I hear the "couch" comment) - made a huge comfort difference for me this summer. My fitter got me down lower on the front end and still made my mid-upper back feel much better (at least for the first 2.5 hours).
  • @Jonathan: Sorry no recommendations as I'm also looking for new aero bars myself ever since Specialized recalled my bars and the new ones are not very flexible for fitting. Are your bars the Vuka Stealth or Aero?
  • I have a set of aluminum bars( I think they are Profile Design) with shifters and brakes that I am selling (gonna put on e-bay). They might work for you and I will post pics if you are interested. They are pretty adjustable and I am only selling them because I converted the bike back to a road bike.
