Kimmyd 2016 Macro

Hi Rich. I haven't submitted a 2016 plan yet because I wanted to get some input from you first. No IM in 2016, mostly because of Mom's health and upcoming chemo treatments. Also cuz wife said no. Lol. So I'd like 2016 to help get me in a better IM position for 2017 and I'm not sure what that looks like. After IMFL 2012, i did SC only in 2013, then SC and a half in 2014, working on speed before IMChoo in 2015. Not sure if that is the best way to approach it. So with a fairly clean slate, how would you structure and time racing in 2016 to best prep for 2017? The only race I have planned is the Patriot HIM in mid June. I had also originally planned more bike racing is 2016, so that's an option too. Although I'd love to reduce running, too much of a reduction in that would be a bad idea (i think) cuz the run is my weakest link. Would doing single sport focussed blocks be a good idea? Some bike races n stuff then maybe a fall HM?

I've also considered a spring cycling camp if that makes sense, but again, calendar is clear. I am planning to start to OS is Jan.

Thoughts?

  • Hey Kim,

I would encourage you to not overthink it.

    • Put "stuff" on the calendar that is fun, that you want to train for. Could be be runs, rides, bike races, any distance of triathlon, whatever. Whatever will be fun for you.
    • Bonus if his stuff is long / serious enough that it encourages you to be accountable towards your goals. So half marathons are better than 10k's, competitive rides are better than organized rides, though legit organized rides (centuries, hard stuff, etc) is still good.
    • Maintaining your running frequency is huge. So I highly recommend you maintain 3-4 runs per week, with 4x being much more preferred.

So just look at what's around and put fun stuff on the calendar.

    Good luck!
