2016 January Volume Camp, Second Edition!

The 2016 January Volume Camp is set to kick off in a few months, and it's going to be another great chance to get in quality training volume as a means of breaking up your winter training.

Bonus #1 -- flying via Orlando is easy and the family, if they tag along, can go play in Disney or at Legoland while you get your suffer on.

Bonus #2 -- the camp is over MLK weekend so you only have to miss one day of work!

The camp closes at 18 athletes...we have 12 slots already taken and a few pending ones...most are just coming back for the amazing food!

>> Full Details for the 2016 Camp are Online Here, Including the Agenda and Sample Routes

You know camp has to be good when 4 out of 5 campers return.

Improvements for 2016 Include:

  • More Swim Time at the National Training Center...it's just gorgeous there...

  • An extra run on the famous Clay Trails that surround Clermont...literally running on clouds...

  • More "flat" riding so the group can stay together and log some safer, more "absorbable" riding across the course of the camp...

Why January Volume Camp?

It's better than a random race that costs more to travel to and only has a fraction of the workout. It's a great way to kick off your 2016 with volume to spike your overall training load. We all need a mental break in January! Best time of the year to visit Florida! Prove to yourself that there ARE hills in Florida...really! Have a blast with your teammates and Coach Patrick as you set the stage for a great 2016!

Interested folks -- please make your deposit by Thanksgiving at the latest...thanks!

  • I'm in for the peanut m&m's... don't tell me there is an easier/cheaper way to get them! I assume you are changing the bike routes to incorporate some of that beloved BRP gravel? In all seriousness though, I really liked the 2015 routes- don't go too soft on us now!
  • I am riding the Horrible Hundred at Clermont Nov 15 ... supposedly more horrible than before. I hope we do that again. Regardless, I am excited to be returning to camp.
  • Damn Scott G...quite a year shaping up for you in 2016. Claremont AND TOC? Nice image
  • Go big or go home JB, that is what I always say! Now my pocket book will have to absorb the beat down as well as my body...
  • @Rachel -- I promise, not toooooo soft! image

@Paul -- can't wait to hear about the new route...please keep us posted!

@Jeremy -- Little bit of P, little bit of R....sound like a PR year to me baby!
  • This weekend I did the "November Pre Camp for the January Volume Camp" On Saturday I ran 14 miles, mostly on trails, at Lake Louisa State Park which is just south of Clermont and right across the highway from the Orange Grove trail we will run at camp. Then on Sunday, I rode the Horrible Hundred, a HUGE century ride, out of Clermont. The route has been changed partly for safety and partly to make it more horrible. All the flat riding south of Groveland has been eliminated from the route (thus no one is crossing Highway 50) and replaced with more riding to the north. The first part of the addition was no big deal, but there is this out and back on East/South Dewey Robbins that adds a lot more elevation. Some of the ride order has changed with the Buckhills coming early in the ride, but getting some more of that area towards the end, plus more riding in the vicinity of Sugarloaf. I heard the total climbing is now 5000 ft but I don't know for certain. I will attest it is a much more difficult route than what we rode at camp last year.
