  •  Philip, I was in the same boat not long ago.  What I have found to work is consistency.  Doing the workouts, however many you do a week, and keep it up.  Also, it may sound counterintuitive, but try pushing the pace a bit and see what you can do.  Push through the pain a few times and that may give you the "breakthrough" you need.  I read in Jack Daniels' book once that he had a runner in a race who wanted to drop out, he told him that if he could catch the next person in front him he could.  He caught him, passed him, and didn't look back.  Just a little push to tell yourself that you are capable of doing it may help.  Good luck!

  • Maybe you can go down the magic yellow light that was in Lost tonight and get some magic running power! Ugh.
I will send you some run mojo if you send me some swim mojo. deal?
  •  I second Dan's great advice - consistency is the #1 prescription, and sometimes, just letting your body work as hard as it wants, even if it seems you're not up to it, does wonders for one's confidence. Personally, I am not a fan of running, and still, after 11 years, have to convince myself each and every workout to actually go out and do the thing. The only way I can be sure to get it done is to give my self a set starting time, like an appointment in a DayBook. I always feel much better at the end than before I start, but apparently not enough to be eager to do the next workout. Swimming, I have no problem with ...

  • Phil- is the Mojo loss a loss of love or a loss of performance? If you've fallen out of love with the run, maybe a little break is in order. OTOH- sometimes we fall out of love because we can't perform. The key is to figure out why the Mojo isn't there so you can address the underlying issue.
  • @ Tucker - Ok we can swap some Mojo!

@ Al and Dan - I am still doing all thw workouts but have not been able to hit my paces but I am still pushing towards it. It may just be a painful adjustment period due to a recent VDOT bump. I agree consistency is best and I will keep pushing.

@ Nemo - It is 100% Performance missing - I rarely have problems getting myself to go out for a run unless im reaaaly tired at which point I cant get myself to do anything!
I really think i am just in a run slump while adjusting to a new VDOT and having some good breaktroughs in the swim and bike. I also am getting used to the hotter weather starting up in texas.
  • @PF -- if a new vDOT has you down, just back off. At the very least you are getting the runs in, which is a great place to start. Super hard high quality runs at a new vDOT will come, they'll just take some time...
  • Philip,

I can send you a little mojo as well, personally I am just happy to get out running two days in a row.  As for the performance I think you have mentioned the two issues, a new vdot and the heat.

There was a recent thread in about training in the heat for running to acclimatize or get up in the morning.  The heat will definitely cost you time so don't get to caught up in the numbers.  Remember come race day you might have to adjust your plan because is 100 out when it should only be 90.
