Todd's Micro Forum Questions

First, congrats on Kona. Another great job. I am looking for help with off season weeks. In the past, I've tried to follow the OS as it is written independent of my schedule. However, given my age and need to recover I might benefit from some subtle alterations during a standard week.

First, I commonly get 5 or less hours of sleep every Tuesday night. Making Wednesday optional or extremely light might be helpful. Second, I am generally available all day on Friday and struggle with an empty workout day. Additionally, my most open work week day is Monday morning, which is usually light on the OS schedule. Do you have suggestions on how I can modify the OS to fit my schedule since I am going to try to really focus over the next year.

Looking forward to reading your response.

  • Todd, so great to have you back in da haus. Here are my thoughts for you, given your schedule.

    Mon - Tuesday Ride/Run
Tues - Sunday Run (longish, not sure if this jives)
    Wed - OFF Day
    Thu - Thursday Ride
    Fri - Wednesday Run
    Sat - Saturday Ride/Run
Sun - OFF, Family Day (optional aerobic run day, no more than 60').
  • P,  I decided to take another route with the schedule as  keeping the team Mojo does well for me.  However, I am curious to see what you think of my Wed hack..   On Wed, if I have gotten less than 4 hours of sleep I am likley going to bag the run.  By the time September rolls around i am sure my speed will be where I would lke it on the run and my running past suggests this is where I can drop something without ill effects.  However, when it comes to the Friday run on those weeks, i would like to replace the standard "hill" run with a longer Z1-Z2 run.  I live in a hilly area so my daily runs are seldom flat.  I find that pushing the paces up really has a neg impact on my weekend.  My hope is that if I keep the Friday run at 10 miles or less, that I will improve my durability without blowing my legs up.  Thoughts?
