Laces

I've tried "almost" all of the elastic quick lace system, boa , etc.... Haven't found any that I like for various reasons... Mostly can't seem to get the tension

Looking to try just a quick lace lock for normal shoe strings ?   I did a quick search and found single's (only one lace) and double's (two holer for both)... Some of these are for round only and sold with lasces....  Assume the double would be more ideal and would like it to accomodate flat type shoe laces...

Can anyone recommend such an animal?

  • Tim, I'm not exactly sure what you're asking re "two holer for both."

I saw a guy at the Raleigh expo selling some type of system that you needed an advanced degree to operate and cost some stupid amount of money.

I bought a pair of "Ibungee" brand laces back in 2012 and that pair is still going strong. It's a very simple system, adjustable tension-wise, and the price is very reasonable. I'm sure with a quick google search there are various websites selling them. Amazon has them here: http://www.amazon.com/SpeedLaces-IB-iBungee-Stretch-Laces/dp/B001CH1F9K

  • BTW...I've used these laces to replace both round and flat type laces.
  • @Doug.... NO elastic laces.... I'm looking for just a locking device for plain old regular laces that come with most shoes... leave shoes a little loose , slip on, pull laces and lock the little slack out

something like this - single hole

    or the double hole

was looking for feedback and specific recommendations as like everything there are so many to choose from
  • You sure you don't want elastic laces? image Sorry man, i'll read closer next time! I don't have any experience with toggles and normal laces.
  • I have used the single hole for both flat and round laces and they worked fine. I have since switched to lace-locks elastic and like these better. If your shoes fit really well and you don't need much tension, the elastic is great.
  • Tim, I rarely have to re-tie my shoes, I leave them tied and just pull them on. Been doing that for thousands of miles of running over the past 14 years and I've never had an issue.

On rare occasions some post long-run foot swelling may require some adjustment as does during the first 50-70 miles on new shoes. But otherwise I leave them tied and slip on, slip off. Also keep the lace loops tucked under the lacing so there is no possible way to have them untie or loosen by themselves.
  • Oh man, why didn't you just ask me a week ago? For 15years, I;ve been using those backpack toggles on the laces which come with my shoes. Single hole, little spring inside. Here's a picture of how I set it up:

  • @Al... well I didnt ask because I wasnt quite fed up with all the elastic laces yet... I ran KONA in my Newtons with Xtenex laces (which I have done many times and liked just fine until now) tops of my feet were killing me for days....I've never been able to get ANY of the elastic laces just right.... Those Cloud shoes I bought in Placid have a unique stretch lace that so far works well with those shoes... I'm still rotating them thru my shoe collection before deciding to use them in an IM....Thanks for that feedback and the photo really helps as I couldnt envision setting them up with the one holer.... Bought that one and a couple others to experiment with....

Tim - in my race report from IMLOU I mentioned about my right foot killing me ... I was wearing a pair of Clouds with those elastic laces.  I finally stopped about 10 miles and spent a couple minutes prying the knot out and then loosening them up.  That saved the day allowing me to finish, but the damage was done and it still hurt the rest of the way, just not as bad.  I had worn them in Austria without issue so I don't quite get why that happened, but the elastic laces seem fine as long as they are set to the right tension.

  • @Paul ... and that is the underlying issue... I been playing with various elastic laces for years now... just cant get them right ... NOT interested in trying any more either.... Didn't like the BOA closure either.... But I need to be able to maintain the speed in transition hence wanting to use standard laces with a lock.... I'd love to find a decent running shoe with old fashioned velcro straps kinda like this.

  • That was the first time I've ever had a problem with elastic laces. The problem with Velcro straps is they might wear out before the shoe does. I think ASICS still makes them though. Check their Gel Noosa and also look for ASICS black/blue T&F shoes with Velcro.
