JoBu's macro thread

Taking a break from long-course in 2016 to focus on some speed while I still have a chance a going fast - not getting any younger.  My A race will be USAT Nationals in Omaha.  I'm also doing World Championships (Oly) in Cozumel and I'm seriously considering layering in some additional distance late in the season and hitting Beach 2 Battleship 1/2 in Oct for fun and to see if I can translate a season focused on Oly racing to a fast 1/2.

I'll jump into the OS plan in Nov or Jan but considering the Get Faster in Nov.  How do they compare?

We've significantly reworked the '16 OutSeason / Run Durability training plan so I recommend you check that out. We haven't reworked the GF plan in a couple years but will do that in about the January time frame, as that's the plan that most of the NovOS people will drop into when their done with the OS.

  • Totally forgot I started this thread. I spent 2016 racing Oly distance and had some good results. I managed to move up a handful of spots in my AG and make the podium at Nationals and raced ITU Worlds for shits and giggles. It was hot and humid...and the South and Central Americans draft like it's their damn job. I finished off the season with a local half on about 4-6 longer rides/runs. I unfortunately had a flat and then user error making the change that cost me over 12min on the side of the road but still managed to finish 4th OA with one of the best runs off the bike I can remember (1:25).

2017 will be all about stepping up to half/70.3 with Puerto Rico 70.3, Raleigh 70.3, and theoretically 70.3 Worlds in Chattanooga. Puerto Rico will be the earliest I've ever raced seriously but I'm coming off 2016 feeling refreshed and motivated. I've been running really well the past few weeks and expect I can build from where I finished last season. I definitely feel like I have a PR in me despite pushing into my 40s.

I'll make a point of stopping back here periodically to update. I'm currently banging my way through the Nov OS with some personal customizations.
