Catherine Branch's 2016 Micro Thread

Hi, Patrick!

I have a question about hitting the run mileage targets in the OS.  I'm a pokey little puppy, so doing the workouts as written probably/likely/certainly get me to the target.  Am I better off adding little runs every day I don't have a scheduled run?  Or try to run extra on the scheduled run days?

Thanks!

  • Dear Pokey --

CB, let's try to run a bit more on the scheduled days...try to spread it out so you can be "consistent" vs a binge day. I still want you to have some rest on the days off...

    Please keep me posted!!

  • Thanks!  After almost a week of adding extra miles/time to the scheduled runs ... I think it's too much.  A niggling foot pain has already returned.  I think increasing miles + increased intensity = disaster for me.  That said, I think the goal of building a base to carry me through the next year is the most important, so I'm going to put the mileage goal as the first goal for me.  Intensity comes second.

Also, I'm going to try to spread out those runs, even if it means I have zero or one day off per week.  An extra 30 minute easy run on an off day is easier to absorb than running an extra 2-2.5 miles on top of a 25' brick run.

    Experiment of 1!

  • CB, good call. Feel free to sketch out here what that week would look like from a running perspective and I can advice (if you want)!
