VO2 max

I did the week 1 test and have a VO2 Max but I have no idea what to do with it. I put in the info for my power zones and didn't need the VO2 number. The workout says zone 5 but the note says VO2. What do I do?

  • Todays bike workout for most people is 110%/low zone 5. We use 110% of your FTP. If it just says Zone 5 we usually use 120% FTP. Also you don't really do anything with the VO2 number that you tested.
  • I don't use the VO2 number for anything. I don't even pay attention to it at all. Maybe I should, but I don't.
  • Spencer, I think that 5 minutes of Vox work at the beginning of the test is to shave the edge off of your legs for the 20 minute FTP test. Otherwise you'd have to ride for 60 minutes to get your FTP.
  • I only use the number as a gauge of where I need the work. If my VO2 is much higher than my FTP test, I need to put more work in on the FTP side to raise my ceiling (FTP) closer to the roof (VO2). If my FTP is very close to my VO2, either I sandbagged the VO2 test or I need to work on raising the roof part of the equation.
