Stem Cell Therapy

After having undergone 2 meniscus surgeries in the last year with continued issues, my surgeon has referred me to a Physiatrist for stem cell therapy.  x-rays show that I still have joint space and I am not "bone on bone."  Does anyone have experience with this as a treater, patient or friend?  Thanks.

  • David, if this is micro-fracture surgery, I had this performed on my left knee in 2011.  I was missing cartilage, about the size of a dime, on the weight-bearing end of my femur.  I have done reasonably well since.   If this is what you are considering, we could talk by phone if you'd like?

  • @Bob: this is different. They remove fat stem cells, process them and then inject into the knee cartilage...
  • Whichever way you go, best of luck.

  • Thanks Bob: at this point I am not sure what I am going to do. It is not authorized by insurance so I would have to pay myself and the knee has been feeling better. (Kind of like the car that acts normal when you take it to the shop then acts up against after...)
