Steph's Training Plan 2016

Just setting this Macro page up to get things going!  I submitted my tentative races for 2016.  I was wondering what your thoughts were on doing a half IM to prep for a full.  I did IMNO 70.3 before Texas last year and it seemed to help me get geared up for it.  I enjoy racing into my big events.  But is it absolutely necessary for a middle of the packer like me to do that or would it actually be more beneficial physically to NOT do it.   It seemed to give me the most confidence in my ows.  I mostly pool swim so its nice to get out there and see those buoys and feel that nervous race start gag feeling. Just wondering if it's productive in the big scheme of things.

Second question (more of a comment)….the event I listed as a C race (in June…month after Texas) the AK marathon….that's really really more like a D race….or Q or R….i am just going for vacation and have a bib.  I can leisurely walk that whole thing and be happy as a lark.  I just need to complete that state for my 50 state marathon book.    it's like the only stand alone marathon i've really gotta do since we are going so far and it will probably be the only time i get to Alaska.  i promise to rest after texas a lot and ease into this.

Have fun in Arizona!!!!!

    Doing your TSR now. Notes:

    • Racing a half in route is full is a good idea but not required. That said, I generally prefer that people not racing anything closer than 5-6wks out from an IM, as that's prime IM-specific training time that's best not used to race. Not a deal breaker though.
    • I'm going to stop your TSR at IMTX. That is, you're going to train for IMTX and not really think about what happens after IMTX until...after IMTX. There's very little value in thinking or planning beyond the first Ironman in the season. Plenty of time to have the "what's next" conversation after the race.
  • Thank you for your comments. I will not do Nola 70.3. Simple focus on TX. Sounds good. Thank you!
