2015 Cozumel Webinar & AMA Thread

Folks -

With only two people registered for today's webinar, a very limited new information about the 2015 event, I have decided not to host a live webinar event for the race. Instead I have updated the Master Racing Page with an embedded version of last year's webinar. All the information you need about the race is there.

The only change that I am aware of is that there will be a rolling swim start. Of course there is conflicting information on the websites. One page specifies that the issue of athletes will start at 730. The other page says that a rolling start will begin 710 with all of the age present in by 730. Either way, although in some start makes for a much friendlier swim – a great addition to a course that is already fast and beautiful.

Please use this thread to ask any specific questions you have about the race for your race preparation. I will be sure to check in here for the next week so that you are not left hanging.

Thanks for understanding and best of luck during your taper!

  • Thanks for the heads up on the schedule changes. Looks like we're now a rolling start, beginning at 7:30am. Gone from the agenda is the police-escorted bike course preview. Any thoughts on doing that on our own on Friday? My group arrives Thursday afternoon.

Jennifer, did you see the athlete's guide today? http://www.ironmancozumel.com/pdf/Athlete-Guide-Ironman-Cozumel-2015.pdf

We've got a group of six racing and more than 10 spectating -- if you or spectators want company. Staying at the Melia, top of the run course.

  • Karissa - do you mean me? I know I got the webinar note this morning, but I think it was a mistake since I'm not racing Coz this year (but I raced it last year and in 2012, so maybe I'm still getting notifications from that). For what it's worth, the rolling start should be nice. Last year it was a wave start, so a little different, but also nice. The swim portion of the race was gorgeous both years I did it. I never did a course preview before the race. So I'll let someone else weigh in on whether to do it on Friday. All I can say about the bike course is be prepared for wind. Have a great race and if you have any questions about last year, let me know image
  • KW - From what I know you will have so much to do when you arrive there a full course preview may simply be too much for your schedule. If I recall correctly, depending on your mode of transport and the time of day, it can be quite the adventure. Instead of committing yourself to a full course preview, make sure that you have a list of priority items to achieve for that day which, when completed, will allow you to do a preview. For example, making sure your bike is assembled and complete working order is way more important given the tight timeline. If you watch the webinar you will see that I recommend doing out and back on the course – basically heading south then east and flipping it. You don't get the full Eastern side of the island experience, which is very exposed... But that is mainly aero bars/TT riding. I am more concerned about you getting some time outside in the heat to accelerate your acclimation.

Jennifer, sorry you were signed up for the webinar hence the email!
  • Hey Karissa! You might have meant me - Julie Pfeifle. I am here and had signed up for the webinar. I'm staying at Fiesta Americana and am planning a bike recon Thu & Fri. Would love to touch base at some point, but I know how busy things get. Feel free to email me through EN, via imim1406@gmail.com or text at 408.368.1493. If we miss each other, have a fantastic race! I'm psyched!
