Anyone done the Longcourse Duathlon Worlds in Zofingen

So the Long course Du Nats were in Fort Worth so I signed up, it was last week. Turns out I was 3 (out of 4) in my Ag. And while my time was completely unimpressive especially compared to the older age groups, it got me a spot for Worlds in Zofingen. Have not decided if I want to

go and it sounds like a crazy hard course, but as someone that was  a complete non-athlete most of my life, very tempted especially to wear that Team USA kit. :p

Anyone done it? What were your impressions?

  • I did it in 2014 and posted a race report. Read that and if you are still interested I can provide more advice. Women get 1 hour more than men to finish so there's that.
  • Just read it. Confirms a lot of what I have read. Honestly the thing that scares me is the descents. I could train for the climbs, I'd be slow but could do it, but descents scare me and technical descents are just completely terrifying. Will make a decision in the next few days.

  • The descent at Zell Am See this summer was more technical than coming down the Bodenberg. It was only the first few turns after cresting the Bodenberg that had a high pucker factor and that you could just go slow there if they worry you too much. At Austria, they erected catch fences and put up red mats where they thought bikers might go over the edge. However, I am going to the Blue Ridge Cycling Camp with Coach P in April to improve my descending ability for my long term goal of doing Swissman. I also went back to aluminum rims with my new road bike because I don't want to worry about my wheels when I'm braking hard. I had some heat deformation on my front CC rim at Austria. Some folks had rim meltdowns.
