Hmm... Winter IM or Jan OS?

So.

Decision time:

Since it's now definite that I'll be there anyway, I have the option of doing a winter IM in NZ late Feb or Early March - either Challenge Wanaka on the South Island or IMNZ on the North Island, respectively.

I'm inclined to go for it, but was looking for quick feedback before locking it in - looking at my season big picture (IMLP in July, IM in Nov) -in making the decision, is there anything I should be taking into consideration in terms of the trade-off in missing the Jan OS vs. training for the IM in Feb/March?

Once I hear back, I'll make the decision and update my TSR this week.

Thanks in advance,

Evan

  • I say go for IMNZ. Who cares if you get 10 minutes faster by doing the OS. IMNZ will be a wonderful life experience!

    Big Picture, Evan. Big Picture!

  • I'm totally biased, but how could you possibly pass up the opp to race IMNZ? It was a bucket list item that I checked off earlier this March, an experience never to be forgotten. Yeah, we all wanna get stronger and faster, but life is short and this is all for fun. Again, totally biased.
  • I'm new here and don't want to really rock the boat BUT!!!!! My vote is you do NZ and just have FUN!!! Dial back on intensity a bit so that you're not wasted the few weeks after. Then rebuild. I'm a little biased....traveling to that area is a serious bucket list item for me. I hope you come to a decision that makes you happy AND allows you to achieve your 2016 goals! ??
  • Evan, depends on what your goals are for your races this year as well as what fitness you are carrying forward to the 2016 season. Coach Rich always says the OS is the best tool for making you a stronger and faster triathlete.
  • Hmm, you're there, you know you wanna, checkmark ! Reload for IMLP ! Gotta say NZ is a must do !  Geez in all seriousness 3 in one year is a lot to ask your body/mind,trg, time vs work, family, yadda yadda. I did 3 in a calendar yr once and it was challenging. For those who have done this recently mult IM hopefully will give you some up to date insight. If you decide to stick with 2 I would do NZ and put another on the back burner. Like David alluded to quality vs quantity. Good luck on your decision making Evan.
  • Goals vs. bucket list? I vote bucket list, without doubt. Good luck in your decision.
  • race NZ. That opportunity may never come around again. No guarantees on anything in life.
