Scott's Macro Thread

Hi Rich

Thanks for getting me my 2016 season roadmap.  I have questions around creating bike volume, primarily.

1) Late Season Volume/Camps: What's the guidance on IM Wisconsin athletes doing the Chattanooga camp?  What's the adjustment to RR#1, then, if any?

2) Early Season Volume/Camps:  I have an opportunity for a big volume weekend at a camp on April 4-10.  Does that timing make sense for me?  Then if I don't go, I would plan to do a Big Week on my own around that time.

3) Longer Bikes in SC after OS:  I included the late May half Iron on the season schedule so I'll do more miles on the bike in the spring.  I can't remember the SC bike weekends but am I right to assume that I can/should include some HIM style 2.5-3.5/1.5-2.5 Sat./Sunday rides in April and May after the OS in prep for the HIM?

Thanks,

Scott

The timing of the 1st RR isn't super important. So you could do your 1st RR as scheduled in the plan and then use the IMChat camp as a second RR/big weekend training opportunity

    2) Early Season Volume/Camps:  I have an opportunity for a big volume weekend at a camp on April 4-10.  Does that timing make sense for me?  Then if I don't go, I would plan to do a Big Week on my own around that time. That far out from your races, the timing of that camp isn't very important. So if doing a big weekend that week works for you, go for it.

If you can swing it, good idea to be riding 2-3hrs on Saturdays, even if you're in the short course training plan. However, always go hard(er) vs longer, if that makes sense. That is, keep the flavor of the scheduled SC ride but add Z2-3 volume to it.

    Thanks,

    Scott

  • Hi Rich

So I am successfully exiting the January OutSeason having hit the 30 miles per week running but only doing about 75 minutes on the Saturday rides on the trainer.  I'm ready to get the bike off the trainer and get riding!  You had me doing the SC plan from now until I start Full IM training for Wisconsin in mid June.  However, I am signed up for a Half Distance on 5/22 and concerned that I need bike mileage.  So I would like to keep the run mileage high and get some two ride weekends done.  I came up with a hack from the OutSeason to the Full IM training that includes two ride weekends and a HIM race rehearsal.  I can't seem to attached it here but would like to send it to you for review.  Thanks,  Scott

Looks like I missed that the Little Smokies thing is a HIM. Let's do this:

    • Today, load up the EN*Half Plan to end on Little Smokies
    • Take a week of transition after the race
    • Then load up the EN*Full plan to end on 9/11

    Good luck!

  • Thanks, Rich.  I end up dropping right in to the RR#1.  A surpise but no problem from my end as the weather looks like it will cooperate.  Then I'll adjust the swims from where I am gradually to the 7-8K/week and adjust the weekend rides based on how I feel.  Onward!  Scott
