Boyle's 2016 Macro Thread

Coach - thanks for the chat yesterday.  Very helpful and really looking forward to working with the group this year.  Just a few questions.  And per our chat yesterday - i've run the last few days so resting the foot today (feeling better every morning.) but will go again tomorrow.  I was set to swim tomorrow but will switch to Friday as tomorrow is Thanksgiving.

But for the swim - it says: WU:  400, MS1:  8 x 50 (5) as 25 drill, 25 free.  Then 200 pull (with buoy.  I think this means that after the 400 warmup i do 8 sets of 50 with 5 seconds rest in between each.  But each 50 is 25 drill then 25 free.  But what drill do i use?  And on the 200 pull with buoy - what does that mean?   And yes - i do have access to fins and paddles for drills.  The rest of the workout i get.

And finally - as discussed my goal race is the Raleigh 70.3 in June but i was thinking about the Jekyl Island Olympic Tri on 5/14.  Is that too close to the 6/5 70.3?  I actually thought it would be a perfect race to get ready but wasnt sure.

thanks - patrick

    Patrick,

    1. There should be more detail about drills in the notes of the workout. If you can tell me what plan, week, day you're looking at specifically I can check that.
    2. This, or something similar, is a pull buoy. Your pool likely has these sitting around on the deck somewhere.
    3. That date of that Oly is fine, no need to make any changes to your TSR. Good luck!
  • Thanks. So i'm on the Run Durability 1 plan. The specific workout i was asking was the first swim in week 1. And yes - i can use a swim buoy - just wasnt sure what it was called.

    But thanks!

    Hey Bill,

Ah, I see the workout doesn't prescribe any drills. Our Swim Clinic eBook on the Swimming page in the wiki is our go-to reference for swimming drills and more. Good luck!

  • Coach - looking for some advice for this week.  I'm heading to the airport shortly and will be gone till Friday.  I wont have any issues doing runs but the bike test wont happen this week.  I fly back all day on thursday.  I was also thinking of mixing in another 5K or 10K race this saturday and then working in the rest of my miles before/after to hit about 9 total.  And then do my long bike/run on Sunday.  Seems reasonable to me but just wanted to see if it makes sense.

I like to race and seems to help as some extra speedwork.

    thanks.

Yes, all sounds good. Racing 5-10k is good pretty much any time. Good luck!

Wow! Sorry to hear that but it sounds like it could have been much worse! Good luck with the shoulder, that's probably the more serious injury.
