Out of run jail!

Hi Coach P.!  Well, 5 weeks ago I fell (again) while running.  I did a number on my knees and waited a couple of weeks before I went to the Ortho.  Xrays showed nothing serious and he suggested I take an anti-inflammatory and not run for 2 more weeks.  This past Monday I ran/walked 2 miles:-)  Today I ran  3 miles at a pretty easy pace and everything feels fine.  My question is: how should I incorporate running back into my week?  I'm not on any specific program (JOS), so I've been biking twice a week and swimming 3-4 times a week (we are taking lessons!).  I had just begun the run durability when I took my spill, so I'd like to get back to that if I can.   As for the falling down part - I think it was my shoes.  Turby says "no" but I got a new pair of Hoka Cliftons just before IMCHOO (where I fell twice) and maybe I just have them tied differently or something.  Anyway, I'm back to my Asics for now.  THANKS

  • Not sure how you fell, but Hokas are "high" and can make you wobbly (roll?) on your feet. Cliftons not so much but if you've got your happy shoes stick with them.

For now you have 3 weeks until Jan OS...so let's just get you running as follows:

    12/7 = 4 runs, total 12 miles.
    12/14 = 6 runs total 18 miles.
    12/21 = 8 runs total 24 miles

That last week bleeds into holidays and Dec Run Challenge so you might want to run more / less that week given probability of no swimming and the Team mojo...so I will leave that one open for you for now.
