Brand new to understanding the EN workout arrangements and language.  If on a particular day a run is above a bike on the training schedule, does it necessarily need to be done in that order?  Or can the prescribed workout be done as a brick workout.

  • Also, in looking at my Road Map, it appears that several training plans will be loaded at the same time? There will be overlap, so that means the plans will merge?
  • Jeff, great to talk the other day...they all work incrementally...you might only do 4 weeks of an 8 week plan...it's more important that you focus on when each plan starts (this is something you would book / track in your calendar so you remember to make switches).

  • Patrick, yes, thank you for spending the time on the phone with me this week. It was really helpful in making a decision about joining EN this year.

Oh, what about my first question above? On the schedules when the run appears above the bike (which seems to be common in EN) - just curious about what is ideal on those days. Particularly on the weekends. Do the run, then immediately get on the bike, or can I perform it as a brick?
  • Jeff, we usually recommend run first as a warm up (it's better quality running), then ride. When you are in season and less than 8 weeks out from your race, then you can absolutely switch to "off the bike" for more race-specific training.

Of course daylight can play games with that, and weather, so I defer to your choice. For example I'd rather have you run a happy 4 miles off the bike this weekend if running before meant you had to be on a treadmill or stumbling around in the dark with a headlamp. Make sense?
