Upcoming Surgery
So, I had a not fun year last year that culminated in my DNF at IMBoulder due to nearly passing out in the water and realizing that some health issues had led to extreme anemia. I had two surgeries this fall for uterine fibroids hoping to solve the issues and neither was successful. I'm having a hysterectomy on 12/23. I'm trying to go into the surgery in as good of shape as I can, but that is relative, for sure. At this point, if all goes well, I should be able to start swimming some about 4 wks post-op, but no running for 6-8 weeks (I'm not sure about cycling, I think probably four weeks?). I was feeling pretty positive about the whole thing and about getting back into shape afterwards, but then I started reading some forums on runners and triathletes post-hysterectomy and I am a little discouraged.
Currently, I am signed up for IM Boulder and IMMoo next year, as well as TOC. My hope would be to get back into things as soon as I can, and just be happy to show up at the start line of things this year, with no expectations for time/performance, etc. I am looking at 2016 as a rebuilding year.
I guess I don't really have a question here, just wanted you all to know where I am and that I am hoping for the best. Hopefully I'll do well and will need some guidance to get back into things in a few weeks.

Well blerg, sorry to hear this Stephanie! I had a hysterectomy in 10/13 for similar reasons. I most certainly will be thinking of you and should you have any questions (or just need to commiserate) shoot me a PM any time. Geeze, what's with the date of the surgery tho? Merry Christmas? All the best to you!
Good luck on the surgery and hoping for a speedy recovery.

You long term goals sound reasonable, and you are already healthier than 99% of the population, so your recovery should be pretty solid. Find a way to stay active and make sure you are eating super healthy and allowing for rest / sleep as that's the best way to recover, especially early.
Let us know if we can do anything!!!!
