New pedels for mountain bike

What type do you prefer & why? Shimano SPD or Crank Brothers Egg beaters/Candy?

Comments

  • Not a whole lot of experience yet, as this was my first real year of MTB'ing, but I went with the SPDs.
I might go back and get a set that also have the "flat pedal" platform around the cleat, so my MTB can be used as a cruiser with normal shoes.
  • Nashbar is doing a big pedal sale right now (on all types). I use these: goo.gl/2U4N4S

I have some "serious" mountain bike buddies that swear by the crank brothers "egg beater" style of pedals, but like Scott, I wanted the option to ride my fat bike with my kids if I'm wearing regular shoes and not clipping in...
  • Neither SPD nor Eggbeaters. I've used both, but prefer Time ATACs. I began mountainbiking with SPDs, but never really liked them. I then switched to Eggbeaters but broke a few pair. I switched to the ATACs and never looked back. They are easy to get in and out of, and shed dirt and mud pretty easily.
  • like the crank brothers.   easy to service.

candy for mtn bike and cross.

egg beaters for everything else.   including tri bike.           like the freedom of being able to walk and run.

  • Long time egg beater rider. Love them.
  • I've been using Time ATAC since the late 90's with no issue. I am going to put P1s on my fat bike so I have a PM for winter commuting, but will switch out for any more intense mountain bike.
  • I second the Crank Brothers Candy's. I have used them for the past 4 seasons on my CX and MTN bikes. I love them for CX racing, since you still have a the platform, if you can't get clipped in.
