Charlie B Macro Forum Thread

I was wanting to add one 1/2 IM race to the schedule.  Because of a few schedule changes, I am wondering if there is an "ideal" time to place a 1/2 IM race in my schedule as Louisville Oct 9 is my "A" race?  My options are 1/2 IM New Orleans April 17, 1/2 Rev 3 May 22, 1/2 IM Muncie July 11th. Thanks Charlie

  • Muncie would be best
  • Coach. Two questions.
#1: In my season plan you have me doing the run durability ending on Jan 10th. However, you ask me to load the Run Durability OS plan on Jan 4th. Today. Do you want me to only do 3 weeks of the run durability or do the last week then load the OS plan?

#2: I need a little advice on the run test. I have done VDot testing in past and they tend to be extremely hard on me. I can sometimes come out of them with a few aches and pains more so than normal. However, I do recover within a couple of days. I have done these tests in the past at 100% (as best as I can alone) lay it out make it hurt full throttle destruction type of effort. Just like a race. Should I continue with that type of effort for the test or bring us just under to be careful of any nicks and bumps? I am OK with the former but need some advice on that moving forward. Thanks

Nope, I wanted you to start the OS on Jan 4. Please just follow the instructions in the TSR and you'll be fine.

Please test as if it were a race, going very, very hard. As long as you're not injuring yourself (doesn't sound like you are), nothing wrong with being a little worked for a couple days. Good luck!

  • Coach, My family schedule is changing. Doing Louisville in October. To make a long story short, I can do a local even 1/2 IM distance July 30 but would rather not do that one as support is poor course sucks etc. Woudl if I have to. I can do Steelhead Aug 14 (7-8 weeks out) or possibly Lubbock (need to look at travel options farther away) (15 weeks out). I have to get this nailed down this week so I can finalize my season plan. Is there a certain number of week out where I want to stay away form a race? Is there an optimal period ... weeks out? Is Steelhead too close?

Steelhead is not too close and sounds like a better race so go with that one.

  • Coach. Been meaning to ask this. In the OS plan Saturday bikes call for "Best Effort" sections. No problem but in my world there are best efforts that truly make it hard low Z4 (would have moderate to high impact on my Sunday run) and best efforts that are more reasonable middle to upper Z3 (would have low to moderate impact on my Sunday run) for the time prescribed 15-20 min. Should this be done like an in season training Sunday ride you guys schedule "spend as much time in Z3"? Sorry to be thick skulled on this but want to execute this portion right.

For me, Best Effort would be the bike that allows me to properly execute the run the next day, but I'd also look at what can I do better with recovery on Saturday, after my ride, so I have a better chance of success on Sunday.

  • Thanks for advice! Will tinker a little with it more on the recovery side also. If I am a little smoked from Sat ride... usually For me is more about 20 min- 25 min reeeaall easy warm up on run is the key because then I can usually execute the remaining "meat" of Sun run workout real well and even the end of the run pretty strong. Thanks agian.
  • Coach. I had to adjust my race schedule because of family stuff. How do I adjust my TSR? It will be.... April 2 = 1/2 Marathon; July 30 Local 1/2/ IM; October 9 IM Louisville. I may do a local Oly but it should not impact my training. Let me know if I need to give that info. I don't think I do.

Please submit this to me as a new TSR, as it looks like you're dropping Knoxville?

  • Yes I have to drop Knoxville. Wanted to do that one too.Kids have a crazy baseball schedule. Anyway, I updated my TSR races so they are there ready. Thanks for this.
