2015/16 Nov OS Wk 10 Run: Run it into the New Year!

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and soon to be a Happy New Year!  Can't believe it is week 10 now!  Just think, when the New Years Resolutioners flood the gym on Jan 1, we'll have been at it for 10 weeks!

This is often the point where my ADD kicks in and I feel like I've been following the same plan for so long and lose focus.  Keep your eye on the prize- 4 more weeks and then you will have survived an OutSeason!

Parts of the country are getting some crazy weather, so remember to be safe- take it to the dreadmill if needed.  Ice/sleet, 35+ mph winds, and 20 foot waves flooding the path are on the schedule today in Chicago- yuck!

  • Howdy fellow Super Tri peeps! It's another great week in drippy Southern Oregon. Went up to Diamond lake , near Crater lake, On Saturday playing in the snow. Came home with full intentions of doing the Sunday run. Laid down for a quick nap. Woke up feeling like warm yak dung! Decided the better part of valor was to go to bed and stay there. Felt ok in the morning but definitely not 100%.

So this week i've got to get'er done. Noticed an optional new run Friday. That would be new years day. My problem is that I shift the weekend training to Friday/Saturday. I don't think I can squeeze in an optional run unless I do a split day. Weather is supposed to be wonderful at the end of the week. Planning (hoping) to get a real, outdoor ride in.

Have a great week everyone. Noticed the walking wounded list is starting to grow already. Please be careful my friends. We gotta exit this exercise in suffering together, holding hands, singing kum by ya.

  • I had to do Sunday's VO2 run last night and then turned around and ran 4 miles early this morning. Needless to say.....my legs were a little fatigued from the VO2 work.

It's great to see what everyone is doing on the run accountability tracker and keep up the great work!
  • Did an "easy" 3 miler on the treadmill today. In quotes because pace did not match RPE- hoping the treadmill was miscailbrated. Hey a girl can dream! All about consistency right now.
  • Started outside this am for my long slow run and after 10 minutes retuned to the treadmill. The freezing rain was hardening instantly on my clothes and on the pavement. Despite me shiny new blinking running belt (thank you EN secret santa!!) I was a target for people rushing somewhere at 5 am on school vacation week. So glad to be back on schedule as the holidays upended the pattern last week for sure. Happy running!

  • I've been blessed to get to spend my vacation in sunny Southern California with my family. This is also where I grew up, so it's nice to be home. I haven't had access to a bike, so I put some extra miles in on Tuesday instead of a brick. I'll continue to enjoy the sun and get as many runs outside as possible before I head back to the liquid sunshine in Oregon. Thanks for all the kudos, they keep me motivated. Happy new year EN!
  • Did the optional workout today. Felt great but tonight I am more tired than I would have expected. Foam roll, hydrate and get ready for tomorrow! Happy New Year everyone!
  • 10 miles today! Big win for me, longest run since IMWI! Feeling like myself again. My awesome EN Secret Santa got me a Nathan Hydration Belt which is awesome. One of my least favorite parts of winter is the lack of water fountains, and I hate hand held bottles. Makes my runs much more comfortable.
  • I did a 9.25 mile run yesterday which I was happy to have completed! I had a rough last week with friends coming in from out of town and I missed many workouts and ate/drank more than I planned so my body did NOT feel like itself for the run. I had stomach issues on the run (from the week) and was not able to hit my zone4/5 and focused on plan B... finishing the run and trying to stay as focused as possible. I am SO glad the holidays are over...

  • 8 mile run yesterday afternoon with a friend with 4 x 400m Z5, and that on tired legs since I did the bike workout early before church. Ran along the very flooded Arkansas River. So much was flooded we could not run on the trail but had to run in the road. The 8 miles capped off my first 40 mile running week in as long as I can remember. I feel fatigued but good so I'm very pleased with last week since I got in the 40 miles and the 3 bike workouts with the holiday and travel.

Hope everyone here had a great New Year holiday and is settling back in to work this week. No rest as we enter week 11.

On a side note I have been trading messages yesterday with local EN friends who are starting the JOS today. Its test week for them!
  • I'm so glad to be done with the holidays. Now I can get back on track. Missed a lot of workouts last week because of vacation time in central Oregon. Was planning on doing my running but temps were hovering around zero. Tried a couple of short runs but just didn't feel like I was getting any air so cut them short and didn't do any long stuff. Got home yesterday so I was able to do the long run at home. 7X400 at Z5 done! Looking forward to the final weeks of the OS.
  • @Kim - ditto on missing more wko's and eating more food than than I had planned.

@Tom - Yes, glad the holidays are over and can get back on schedule.

Slept through yesterday's early AM wko time. Up to late watching a movie with the Wifey. Had a busy day on tap, so squeezing in a run was going to be difficult. Mentioned my plan to my wife, who suggested I run during the kiddo's Sunday school time. BINGO!! I didn't even think to suggest this as it would have dinged my SAU account.

From church, there was just enough time to squeeze in a 60' run to the local HS track for the 400m intervals. This is the one run I was wishing for a balaclava as it was colder than I anticipated. Temps registered at 26 degrees and it began to snow half way through my run. 7x400 @ Z5 done. I even finished up my run 5 min early, to find the kiddos playing out in the snow.
