Bont Shoes

Would love to talk with anyone who has Bont Cycling Shoes. I have a pair that I am going to heat mold in the next couple of weeks - and would welcome any tips, feedback, strategies, etc... other than what is available on-line.

The insole that comes with the Bonts does not seem particularly comfortable and/or supportive - and I am wondering if anyone has replaced the stock insole with an aftermarket product (SuperFeet, Specialized, Pearl Izumi, etc...)

Thanks!

  • @Woody- funny you bring this up. I've been meaning to ask the team as well. I haven't bought them yet, but have been looking for a pair of Bonts to replace my LGs which got mangled a bit when I hit the pavement a few months back. I visited Todd at TTBike fit a last not too long ago and we had a conversation about Bonts. I was looking for something roomy in the toe box and he highly recommended Bonts for the toe room and because of the heat moldability. The room up front most appealed to me, but being able to mold the shoe makes sense too. I'm unsure that you'd be able to fit a different insole after molding the shoe unless you're able to trim them. Which ones did you buy?
  • I''ve been using Bont triathlon shoes for a couple years now.  Very durable and comfortable, although I had to go at the molding several times before it worked to my comfort with wide toes.  I, too, replaced the insole  twice.  Think the insoles have cost me more than the original shoes but worth it as I was getting hot spots after 70 miles or so.  If you pee on the ride, you will also want to replace those insoles regularly.   I currently have the 3e Flex Cycling Moldable Insole by Fi'zi:k  which was recommended by a LBS.

  • Brad - I picked up a pair of Vaypor + in 46.5. Have not molded them yet - looking for a shop that has experience w/ fitting. Does Todd deal w/ Bont? Initially the 46.5 seems like it is going to be the size I need > 47.0 is too large. That said, I would like to try a pair of 46.0 be safe. I love the boa closure for fit - had them on a pair of Specialized shoes and can't imagine using Velcro straps again.

Years ago, I had Bont speed skating boots (don't laugh at the idea of a big lug like me doing short track!??) and came to love the quality of Bont products!

Stephen - are the insoles you referenced also heat molded? And did you mold the insole first, let them cool and then heat the shoe, insert insole?

My exclusive reservation thus far, is the time it is going to take to get the correct fit. I know - quality fit takes time. Asking questions in advance of first molding to see if I can reduce the number of times I need to tweak things. Would LOVE to find a Bont fitter in the New England region and waiting to hear back from Bont on this.
  • The box says they are heat moldable.    However, I didn't do anything but watch the LBS  put them into my old Bont Shoes.  The shoes were molded in a regular oven without insoles a couple years ago.

  • @Woody - not sure if Todd is an official Bont dealer or just a big proponent of them. Check out the dealer map here:
