Mark Hickman 2016 Micro

Coach.  After bike accident on Christmas day (bruised ribs and broken finger), it looks like I'm going to be in run jail for a bit, or at least until i can stand the jostling.  On the other hand, I can handle biking, and starting the JOS on Monday.  Curious as to what a hack to the plan looks like that inserts lots of biking and no running...until I can do the running anyway.  Thanks.  Mark

  • Mark, that sucks, but then again you were riding on Xmas day! image The OS hack is Tue/Thu/Sat bikes as planned, and Sunday as a bonus steady / abp ride of 60 to 90 minutes. All other days are off, stretch, hike, etc. I am assuming no swim with your hand...so make the rest days REALLY rest so you can crush the bike. It's kind of liberating in a painful way. image Please keep me posted on the recovery!

Here's your updated Season Plan, as promised. This is where you'll return to post all your "coach" questions as responses; I'll see them and reply. This first post is my best outline of how to proceed with your races, but you can ask any / all questions you want. So post away, know that I reply here usually M/W/F each week.

    Your Notes

Last races were Augusta on 24 Sep (5:22 (easy swim)), and a Sprinternational Oct 14. Started running every day 6 Nov, and biking 3-4x a week since 24 Nov. Currently in Week 5 of Bike focused Dec OS, level 3. FTP test today (Zwift 253/P1 pedals 221). Had planned to transition to advanced Half plan 8-9 weeks prior to Florida 70.3 (5:4X last year) (April 8)), but open to what you think is best time to come over. Don't intend to race longer than 70.3, and unsure of race plans past June as the Army is moving me somewhere, just not sure where yet. Other than bike accidents, I have almost no injury background other than minor tweaks here and there. Saying that, I do occasionally have some back issues, which chiro has been doing a good job with, and some shoulder issues...I just don't do burpees, wide arm push ups etc. I've been a decentish swimmer without much buildup (around 1:40/100y), and can get down to maybe 1:30ish with significant effort. Will begin to get in the pool 1-2x week over the next few weeks. Looking at ability levels, I'm right between Intermediate and Advanced, but all goals are in the Advanced ranges:o)

I'll have 4-5 races in the few months after Florida 70.3; mostly sprints. Possibly another 70.3 if I need the race series points and weather is favorable.
