Traveling with POWER!

Going to Mallorca, Spain, in May, to cycle for 11+ days, like I usually do. But this time, I'm adding 5 days in Amsterdam afterwards, so I'm not planning on bringing my own bike this year.

Anyone have suggestions on how to capture power data on a rental bike (Trek Madone 4.9 w/ di2)?

I know the rental bike will have a FSA bottom bracket, while my Quarq is a GXP/english one (yes, it's OLD!). But I don't know anything about what type of BB (ex, pressfit, threaded, etc). The answers to the questions I send the rental guys are coming back cryptic, to say the least, so I cannot count on their answers at this point.

I don't want to spend thousands to do it. I'm taking my own Garmin 510 with me.

Ideas?

-a powertap 11-spd rear wheel to rent?

-powertap or garmin pedals to rent? Currently, I use Speedplays.

  • My suggestion would be the Powertap P1 pedals. Either find someone to rent from or buy a pair and use them going forward.
  • Renting a Powertap Wheel is probably the easiest option because with the pedals you'll also have to change out/but cleats for your shoes. But if there isn't a place to rent them where you are going- then buying the P1 pedals would be my second choice.
  • enjoy !! luck you, I did the 70.3 there and that was the best bike of my life (i know my comment has no value! hah)
  • I gotta say this is a huge argument for the P1 pedals... Definitely my next PM... They would simply work on anything with a crank period...
  • I have traveled very well with Vector Pedals.
  • This is THE reason I got my P1 Pedals. You travel with your shoes and pedals and it's an easy swap out. I was skeptical but the power mirrored my Quarq perfectly. Now I don't need 3 different PMs for my bikes and am not limited to wheels or cranksets. Brilliant product.
