  • Sunday run done Saturday in hotel gym mill during storm in NYC (while Phil is visiting my desert hometown where its sunny and 70),

3 mi at slow TRP and still had trouble keeping HR at goal,  4 x .5mi@z4 pace with complete HR recovery for .25.  HR hit z5 zone-to the moon!

Good luck tomorrow on your long runs.  And wish me good luck getting home-just found out that our monday am flight out has been canceled. As fun as the trip has been, now it feels like  Snowmegheddin!! At least the emergency crews are out plowing like crazy-may be able to do a 3 miler in central park tomorrow

  • I’ve remained consistent with my runs this week. I did have a very difficult run on Wednesday. I wasn’t doing anything that was difficult.. but I really struggled to get in the 6 miles. At the time… I attributed it to fatigue… On Tuesday I had run in the morning and did a pretty stout 4x4 session in the afternoon…but looking back at my food diary on MFP I see I had gone two days without drinking a post WO recovery drink.

I’ve been using The Core diet for the last few months and have seen a reduction of about 10 pounds from where I started. They suggests 2 scoops of Endurox post WO… When I take it I only do one because I need the calories later in the day… but early in the week I had skipped it all together. Lesson learned. I’m writing this solely to highlight the fact that if I hadn’t kept notes on all this stuff… I would have never been able to make that link. I would have had to take a day off for recovery… when in truth… I don’t think I really need it right now.

As for my runs… 33 miles so far with a long(er) one tonight. Maybe I’ll hit the streets instead of the TM… see what all you cool kids are talking about on here…

Thanks everyone for all the posts… It’s been said many times… but the MOJO is what provides me strength at the lowest points…

    Out Season= No Excuses…
  • @Ed E-I posted right before you that I too had a lot of trouble on the mill keeping my HR down-at snail pace no less. Snows over and paths/roads all plowed so I will be doing 3 outside today
  • Happy Funday Sunday!  I'm letting my pancakes settle a bit before I jump on the treadmill (while Turby is outside shoveling 2 feet of snow!)  Darn - we only have one snow shovel:-)  Got 4-miles in yesterday after the bike workout so that today my 6-miles will bring me to 22, as prescribed.  I do hope that I feel as good today as I have been...

@John - lucky you!  Not much variation on my treadmill:-)  I suppose I could vary the incline every once in a while though!

@Trent - tailwind and downhill!  That's my kind of running:-)  Yep, too bad you had to come back into it...  Hope today is not too awful for you:-)

@Gonzalo - serious hills (and altitude) where you are!  You're gonna kick some butt when you get down to sea level:-)

@Derrek - I totally agree with you about the treadmill vs. outside!  My runs outside seem much easier than the TM. I don't even wear my HR monitor on the TM because the numbers freak me out.  LOL  Good luck today!

@Betsy - great job on the hotel TM.  I hope you can get outside in Central Park today!  It's nice and sunny:-)  Bummer about your flight being canceled.  geez...

@Ed - makes sense about the post workout nutrition.  I'm so bad at that!  Congrats on the 10 lbs!!  I'm not surprised between your Core Diet and all the running you are getting in!

Well, time to hit the TM.  I'll catch up with you later:-)  Good luck with your run today....

  • Sunday run in the books. First 5 with pup at TRP then 2X1mile at z4+ and a final mile at z3/z2. Little over 10 miles for the 70 minutes. Feel good but also the fatigue of 38 miles for the week. I think for hammering the bike workouts and experimenting with possible higher ftp's it's made the runs feel a little harder to achieve. Rest hard tomorrow all next week fast approaches.
  • Clearly thrashing my legs this week. missed 2 runs, and tried to load up the others as longer runs & missed yesterday due to snowmargeddon inserting a 2nd bike ride, from the start I said, oh, let's do an ez 10 miles. by mile 3, i was saying, let's cut this at 4, then got to 5 and said, turn around and make it 7, somehow managed to eek out 10 at a slower than TRP pace. 2x1s were not happening, but happy I got some good long fat burning volume in.
    3 runs this week: 8.5, 10 & 10.2 miles
  • Hey week 3 runs are in the rearview mirror. At the beginning of the week things were not looking up for my running. My long run last weekend in the slippery uneven surface just killed my ankle bones and lower leg muscles. Tried to run on Tues, shut it down after .5 mi. Had to take it smart the rest of the week, taped up ankles, and kept the mileage down, yes Carol D I ran the rest of the week on the treadmill. Finished off today with a 16 miler and the legs have forgiven me. Come Tues out the door I go for a new adventure. Week 4 is upon us and winter is coming and in some places it is here, cheers peeps ! Sorry no pics this week !
  • OK, run done ! 7.5 miles in 65 minutes again with some good hills

Glad to have done the 3 bike and 6 run workouts this week. 33 miles of running is not too bad

Great work and inspiration from this group !

  • This was a very trying week from a personal perspective. I spent the first 5 nights sleeping on the couch and taking care of one of our dogs in what turned out to be his last days. I didn't get any workouts in until today. Today's run was fine with the first 3 mi at TRP and both Z4 miles felt good. I think my legs are so rested that I could have overachieved more for the run today. Either way, I'm glad to be back in action this week
  • Seems I feel great at the beginning of the week and then it gets progressively harder!  Yesterday's run was fine, but first 2 miles was hard to stay in zone 2 bc pup didn't want to keep up.  Dropped her off was able to maintain the Z3 on the next 3, but it was tough. This morning, I felt like a lumbering rhinoceros for the first 2 miles but made TRP, then 2 miles in TRP feeling great.  Then a tough Z4 (but first half was uphill) then a second Z4 that felt great, for 6.3 miles overall..  I have no idea what all that means, but I'm looking forward to resting the legs tomorrow!

  • Each of you guys are so inspiring/focused and hard working people.  Love this group of terminators!

  • My Sunday was busier than usual. I planned to run on the TM early in the morning but ended up shoveling some of the driveway in the mid-morning than (since my wife made a nice breakfast) I decided it was best to enjoy breakfast with her and kids instead of running. Then mid-afternoon we finished shoveling the driveway and I had about an hour of daylight left and decided to run outside. It was a sunny day around 34 degrees. As I speculated, the roads had very little traffic, mostly snow plows/trucks and I was able to run on the roads. After 4 miles, I did the 2x1's for 6.5 miles outside and finished up with 1.5 miles on the treadmill to get to 70 minutes. Looking forward to a no legs day tomorrow.
  • 7.5 mi total....2x1 + 50' TRP....on the couch with football
  • Hey ya'all! Nice way to finish up the day!! WOWZER!!
Got my 6 miles in on the TM with a nice progressive run for 3 miles then 2 * mile at Z4 (2nd mile was closer to Z5) and finished up the last mile in Z2/Z3. Was tough going at the start, but my legs and heart came around after a couple of miles. Phew.
The BEST thing today was that Turby actually ran on the treadmill - first time in... I don't know.... maybe 8 years? After he read my Week 4 thread, I think he felt obligated! LOL

@Trent - that's one fast puppy you've got there:-) Smokin' fast running and nice job keeping it up with your crazy bike WKOs! Enjoy your rest day tomorrow!

@Scott - way to get the total mileage in! Nice job "talking to yourself" and getting those miles in. Z4 or not - you more than made up for that!

@Steve - You will certainly appreciate my Week 4 thread:-) Glad you got your legs working again. Did you seriously run 16 miles on the treadmill today?? I hope I read that wrong.... I DO miss your pics. Especially the sexy ones with you in a speedo and a snow blower! LOL Good luck this week!

@Gonzalo - 70 degrees and 26% humidity? Sorry - no sympathy from me! :-) Great job getting those 6 runs in this week!

@Brett - my heart goes out to you, man. I've been there and it sucks! Hope getting you back into the groove this week will help you with your grief. Don't try to make up anything.... just go with the program. :-(

@Leslie - "I have no idea what that means..." That means you are a BadAss!!! Seriously! Z3 for 3 miles on a Sat. run is pretty amazing... As for today... It takes me at least 2 miles to warm up. Then I start to feel okay and I know if I'm gonna have it or not. Obviously, you had it:-) Nice job!

@SS - NICE progressive runs! You are killing it:-) Talk about terminators. If that's not the pot calling the kettle black. :-)

@Derrek - nice priorities:-) Sounds like a good, smart decision. I have to say though - to come in from running outside and finishing on the treadmill takes some serious dedication. Way to motivate!! Rest up tomorrow:-)

@Jeff - nice work there! I'm assuming since your photo says Boston... you are feeling pretty bummed right about now. Sorry. That was a really great game:-) The 2nd game tonight was pretty boring and I didn't really care who won that one. Hence - I'm in my litle library doing emails:-)

Okay folks. Onward to Week 4! Give 'em hell!!!
  • Finally! I had two good feeling runs!!! Hopped on the mill at the bike shop post ride and had no issues over achieving paces. AND I felt really good. A big change from how I"ve felt lately at paces from my "flunked" test.

Had a bad nights sleep and an early date to run at our local LTF with my peeps and didn't have much expectation of another good run. I forgot my watch too, so no hr data. Hopped on the mill with my "hooligans" as I call them (several are EN'rs of course!) and started to trot. I knew right away it would be a good run, so I ran faster than I should have for the entire thing and felt great once again! It's like a switch has been flipped. image I ran 1:07 to get 7 miles (so not crazy over paces!) and hit 22 for the week.

Sure hope this is my new "normal". It is supposed to warm up a tad (I've been a giant baby not running out doors since the New Years Day other than in Costa Rica!) and I may pull on some tights and do the shorter stuff outdoors. Can't sy I've missed the extra laundry of out door running though. image
  • Brett- I'm so sorry to hear that news. I have a tender heart when in comes to the furry family members. Be kind to yourself.
  • Got my Sunday run in last night after dark outside. It was relatively (!) warm for January in Iowa. Couldn't get myself up to the full TP for the 2 x 1 mi, but did get them in the HMP range. 9.5 miles overall. I'm calling it a success even though I didn't get quite the speed, because the cold is different than the ideal indoor conditions.
  • @ Trish - SO happy to hear about your last couple of runs!  That is good news:-)  And good job getting the 22 miles in:-)  I do hope this is your "new normal".  Yep, running outside would be a nice change!

@ William - I'm sure if I ever ran outside after dark, it would be ugly!  Good for you getting 9 1/2 miles in!!   Yep - I'd call that a success:-)

Hope everyone is RESTING their legs today.  I swam for an hour.  Sort of:-)
