Amulya's 2016 Macro Thread

Hi Coach,

I'm currently on the Jan OS and my first race for the season is Wildflower long course on  April 30th. With that said, a few of my friends are planning a coast ride from San Francisco to Santa Barbara and want me to join them. The ride is planned on April 7 - 9 and will be riding about 125 miles each day for three days. The ride is a social ride with a small group of about 10 people or so. Do you think it's a good idea to do this a few weeks before Wildflower?  If yes, should I modify the bike workout in my HIM plan?

I don't have any specific goals for wildflower besides a reasonably strong finish.

Yep, do the rides and just have that replace whatever you have scheduled on those days. FYI, I've ridden down the coast many times. Notes:

    • In '04 I did this ride but started in Redwood City, I think, and rode to Santa Barbara.
    • IMO, there's not much value in riding the coast south of Morro Bay, as the 101 turns inland and is very freeway-ish. In other words, all of the really good riding ends at Morro Bay.
    • It's worth making a detour up Naciemento Furgeson Rd (look it up) and into Ft. Hunter Ligget if you decide to end the ride in Morro Bay vs Santa Barbara and want to make up those miles.

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Thanks for the tips coach!
