Waterbottle setup - Whats new?

So, I have looked at the venerated bottle/bike setup thread and have some questions.  Having just gotten a new (to me) P2, I am looking at the aero bar bottle setup options.  The main contenders seem to be a torpedo bottle or something like a Torhans bottle mounted between the bars.  I feel certain that some smart person in the house has looked at this issue and can point me towards some objective data to help me choose the optimal setup for my new ride.  Thanks in advance.

I've found that a side loading bottle caged mounted between the bars is the best, most flexible training and racing solution. I had to do some work to get the placement right, so that my Garmin sits in front of the bottle where I can see it, hands shield the Garmin and bottle. Very aero and flexible setup.

  • This mount (http://www.trisports.com/trisports-torpedo-bta-mount-150.html) with either a regular water bottle or the torpedo bottle. I've used both but found I like the regular bottle better, since you do not need to refill the bottle on the move. TriSports sells this mount with the torpedo bottle, if you choose that way. Hell, now that I think about it, I have the torpedo bottle with the Torpedo mount that I will send you want. (You can just buy me a couple of beers in Boone if you are going to be there this year).
  • @Coach Rich - Thanks, I kind of got the feeling that the torpedo was the way to go but the newer Torhans bottles are reportedly pretty good from an aero standpoint so I was just checking.

John, I am so in for Boone.  If you truly have an extra, send that sucker down.  I will gladly pay you with beers Tuesday for a torpedo mount today. Wasn't that what Wimpy used to say in the Popeye comics?  I will PM you my address.

I have both sizes of Torhans (I think) and their torpedo bottle but it just wasn't for me. Let me know if you interested in a deal(s)

  • The torhans 30 has been found to reduce drag when positioned close enough to the head tube.

The profile contraption, when set up with the bracket upside down, has been shown to reduce drag ... Google ero insights profile bottle.

The bta, mounted low and filling the turbulent space between the arms, is also a great bet, and tops the preference for usability.
