Josh R Macro Thread

My current schedule has 70.3 Hawaii (Jun 4) and 70.3 Vineman (Jul 10). I'm considering adding IM Vineman on Jul 30. If I add the full, my plan is to back off the run on 70.3 Vineman.  After Honu I ship my bike home and head over to Kauai until  Jun 19. While on Kauai I'll have access to a mountain bike and a road bike with a stationary trainer. I'm not riding on the road in Kauai bc there is no shoulder and the highway is deadly. My max tolerance on this particular bike/trainer combo is about 2 hours.

So, here is my question. Can I stack bike durability into the schedule before going to Hawaii and then try and just maintain fitness using the trainer until I return on the 19th?  Maybe start the IM plan a bit earlier than I otherwise would and then piece something together for that middle section while in Hawaii.

Josh, first step is to decide if you're racing Vineman full. If yes then submit that to me via the TSR page and I'll rework the plan. I can also look at where that week in HI lands (be sure to make of note of this in your TSR notes) and will give you my advice in my TSR screencast for you.

  • Thanks Rich, but my decision about doing it depends heavily on whether you think it is feasible given my schedule.

Yes, it's doable, though I'd need to change what you're doing in route to Honu. The vacation / no bike stuff just is what it is and you can work around that.

  • Thanks Rich. I took your advice and removed IM Vineman from the schedule. Instead I'll skip a full this year or add a fall race, probably Maryland or North Carolina.

Qualified for Boston today, so that will need to be on the 2017 schedule!
