Krista's 2016 season

Hi! I am a brand new member and have reviewed my road map and training plans. I have one question, for now! I am doing a half marathon on March 5 and am trying to figure out to adapt my Sunday runs to prep. My longest run to date has been 2.5 hours. Any thoughts would be welcomed!

Thank you,
Krista

  • Krista, Coach Patrick the run coach here! image You have about 4 weeks to go until your half marathon, but you are running a TON. A 2.5 hour long run is how many miles for you? In general, we don't run any longer than that, ever, as it's too costly.

Ideally you'd have two more runs in the 12 - 14 mile range this weekend and next. Then you'd drop to 8 miles, then it's race week. In race week, you'd do your normal training week through Thursday, where Thursday is Bike Only, Friday is OFF...then your race Sat...and Sunday is a nice long easy trainer ride to get loose and keep the bike miles up. Let me know if you have any more questions!!!

  • Thanks Coach Patrick! I'm on the slow side. 2.5 hours is 10 miles if at a z2/z3 pace. Getting faster is on the agenda for this year! Should I stick to 2.5 hours or go for miles. I've done several half marathons before, so I'm not worried about the distance, just want to make sure I am ready!

    Thank you, Krista

You should always be running for time, not distance. And no one on this team ever ever ever runs long than 2.5hrs no matter what they're training for. Short answer is you don't need to run any longer than you are right now.

  • Great! Thank you, that's what I needed to know. Appreciate the response.
