Using a computrainer rm1 software

Hi,
I have a computrainer with rm1 software but i have not ever really used it.

Can someone point me in the direction of some good guides on how to use it.

Also any thoughts on the best way to use it for OS weekday sessions and testing?

Cheers

  • @ Julian, Most of the Out Season rides are intervals. I have a computrainer and I ride most of my rides on a constant incline course. That way, when you want to crank up the watts, you shift to a harder gear and go. During the rest intervals, you just drop to the small crank and spin for recovery.

  • Alternative view ... I used a CompuTrainer 2007-2014, for all the OS workouts. This was before the new software. As I understand the new software, there is a "Course Creator" module. Using this, you could "program" an OS workout which would control the resistance in the CT automatically, *forcing* you to work at the prescribed watts, no matter what gear you use, or what cadence you use. That's the way I did it.

Problem is, Racemate is NOT a user friendly company - trying to figure out how to program workouts was all on me, and it took me MONTHS to finally get things to the point where it ran smoothly. Once I did, I had a set of workouts which I could modify as needed for length of intervals, and wattage, as those things change over the course of the OS.

  • I found that doing the workouts in TrainerRoad with the Computrainer in Erg mode (except during testing) was the best way to do all of the Out season workouts.  Especially since Coach P has already written them to be used for all EN members.

  • I've programmed the workouts like Al mentioned or you can set up Smart pacers and use them in the 3d cycling mode. What they do is stay slightly ahead of you when you're putting out less watts but if you match their watts you can catch them and even pass them by putting out more watts than them. So if my target for an interval was 200 watts, I would set one up for that and try to keep up with it or ahead of it for the interval. It makes it more like a video game. I go back and forth between that mode and ERG mode. ERG mode makes it harder to cheat because the Computrainer dictates the watts no matter how fast or slow you pedal.
I agree with Al, Computrainer is not user friendly.
  • I use Perfpro software with the Computrainer, the workout creator can build a workout in a minute or 2.  It has lots of included workouts and you can modify them, including all the Sufferfest workouts (workout only, no video).  About $100. Perfprostudios.com.  I don't work for them!

  • cheers i will have a look at perfpro and trainer road
  • Just FYI, if your trainer has the blue flywheel, it has been recalled. The details are here - https://www.racermateinc.com/blue-flywheel-recall/ There were several cases of the flywheel exploding mid-ride. Scary stuff.
  • Computrainer hardware is the best out there. Their software is the worst out there. Use their hardware with 3rd party software. Many years ago I was an expert on their software. When TrainerRoad arrived on the scene, I stopped using their crappy stuff.

I think that the Wahoo Kicker is going to put them out of business because of their inability to develop better software. I personally think they should stop selling the software and be a hardware provider.
